Glen L, here is the solution you propose:

I made a bracket from some aluminum channel shapes and painted it black.
Hope I never need to use it.

Ron: You need to vacuum...

I like the mounting in front of the passenger seat - I believe that's where the factory mounted the optional fire extingguishers also. At least I have seen a few 928s in Europe with extinguishers in that position. It's probably the place where it's least likely to be in the way - having it in front of the back seat makes that seat totally useless (and I do sometimes use my back seats, believe i or not!)

I have been too busy trying to make a living in this inflated area and trying to put together a deal so I can retire in wealth and splendor. Besides I took that on the maid's day off; she came in the next day and cleaned the car, and the house and office and made a delicious vegan dinner for me. And then she ......

Glen, that looks like a nice solution for the power seats. Personally, I found that females tend to drag purses and such around, hanging up on the ext handle when I had it mounted in that position. I decided to make some changes in the interest of passenger comfort(plus the ext is easier to pull out now).

I'm not "worried" about a car fire... I just know that if a fire started and I didn't have one, I would have no choice but to watch the car burn to the ground. I gave myself a choice. I have a AAA card, not because I'm afraid, but because it makes sense to me. I lock my front door at night not because I'm afraid, but because it makes sense to do so.

Re: stop with the "innovative" mods
Unless/until you own this car, you can STFU about telling me what to do with it. I enjoy hearing what people say, whether they love or hate this or that mod, and of course the purpose of a forum is to share ideas and opinions -- but telling me what to do with my own car won't fly.

How did you get such a "good" pic of a 928 on fire?! And whose is/was it?!
That is one scary-azz pic!

I wonder if that car belongs to the current boyfriend of McVicar's old girlfriend?

Don't be so thin skinned. I wasn't addressing you specifically.

Now you STFU.

... it would seem, calling 928 driver's idiots, implying that we drive like idiots, and that all others should stay as far away from us as possible or risk an idiot 928 driver ramming them.

Am I wrong? If so, what did you mean to write?

Jim...i think your BUSTED!!!!!

that extinguisher type seems to looks pretty familiar....hmmmm?

The picture of the 928 on fire almost made me sick!
Andrew, print that pic out and offer it to the " SHRINE "!

Dave C:

Sometimes humor doesn't come across and I don't like to use emoticons. How many of us have smashed a car and had the stunning insight that speed or inattention on our part was to blame? I know I have. Including my 928!

Dave A:

Troll? Me? Perhaps an provoceteur, but not a troll.

Here's the long version:

Why have a fire extinguisher?

I used to leave mine in the car all the time. The local PCA region required them for DEs. The reason for having them was so the drivers could put out fires in another driver's car. Originally the members staffed the corners in rotation and provided emergency services so having each participant carry an extinguisher made sense. As we've now got professional corner workers and rescue crews there's not a need to have them.

One thing that was emphasised at the track was to use the extinguishers on interior fires to protect the driver and to not try to fight engine fires. The #1 rule was to not open the hood. When it opens the fire tends to flare up and there you stand.

In a similar vein, race cars have fire extinguishers for the safety of the driver. They're fired by the driver, or safety crew, from the cabin. Hood stays closed.

With all the bad things that can happen out there, from parking lot bumps to self-inflicted off-roaders, having an extinguisher isn't cutting back on real risk to yourself or the car.

As for modifications, I've heard of some that are really suspect. Like guys who want to make fuel lines or cut and re-weld suspension arms. These are not low-risk changes and carrying an extinguisher doesn't change that. Do things that are safe and frequently re-check the new.

So Ighave to wonder about the basic "why" of the issue. Because it's mandated to compete is a good reason. Because it's just fun is another. Because your car might catch fire isn't realistic. Better to park it or get comprehensive insurance coverage.

I carry with me a license to carry and use CS tear gas. I was issued the license by a state licensed security training institute in San Francisco. This is not the keychain type of canister; it is the large canister you see used by police.
It is effective. To get the license, I was required to swear that if necessary, and if by doing so I would not bring harm to myself or others, I would use the tear gas to intervene in an assault or fight or to help the police do so. I have done so and been thanked by the police who can't be everywhere at once.

In California, though it is illegal to discharge a firearm within city limits, it is legal to use a firearm to stop the commission of a crime. If a policeman is in need of assistance or another citizen is being threatened or his/her property is being threatened, it is legal to intervene with the use of a firearm. I know policemen who are not afraid of the possession of firearms by law abiding citizens because there are more firearms on the streets to bring to bear against criminals in that case.

I seems to me that if Mr. Sharkskin's car was on fire, I would be able to grab my fire extinquisher and help put out the fire in his vehicle. And ditto for him.
At a couple of pounds, why NOT have one in the car? I have a friend who stood by and watched as his modified VW bus with 911 engine burned to the ground because he did not have an extinquisher handy when he detected a fuel leak just before the engine caught fire.

I will continue to carry a fire extinquisher in my cars, all three of them, and continue to lobby for concealed carry laws in California. I felt safer in Arizona with more guns on the street in the hands of responsible citizens than in Califronia where you are almost required to call a psychiatrist to psychoanalyze a "disadvantaged individual" who is trying to rob/kill you on the street before you can defend yourself, because you might traumatize the poor bastard. And I feel a whole lot safer around others who have fire extinquishers in their cars. Maybe I can help them if they need it to put out a fire someday. I guess that makes me a weirdo, eh??

(where's the Halon button on my keyboard ??)

I got mine for a selfish reason - so I might not get
'well done' in my own cockpit & can bail out. Even
the odds, so to speak.

Some 'sharksters' carry 2 bottles; 1 might not be enough,
for their own car or someone else's.

G'luck.

P.S. Exactly Ron_H, on both scores.
