Best Roads In America for the 928

Here in New England there are lots of country roads that are scenic and enjoyable. The best that i have driven is a route from Woodstock, VT south to Grafton, VT over rt. 106 and 35.
This route is mostly uninhabited, very twisty, and extremely scenic with parts paralleling a river with white water sections. It also helps that both towns are typical nice vermont tourist traps with all the attractions. In fact Woodstock is my favorite in all of Vermont.
A second would be rt. 118 in NH (hope thats it) where we had a porsche ride 2 years ago with all models represented and was the most exhilirating drive i have been on.

Climbing out of Rancho Mirage on 74 - the Pines to Palms Highway - is, in my opinion, a 3 that will seriously test the performance of any car, while the drive along the mountain crest is an easy and pleasant 1 until the intersection with 243 to Banning which goes back to a category 3 ride.

cat 3... "Oh my god" road in colorado. This is a gravel mountain pass that goes from central city to I-70. Very resemblant of a rally stage; I had a blast in my old isuzu yanking on the hand brake to make the turns.

Keith & Ron,
You guys mentioned a few, as did others that are in my area in NorCal.. Well within 100 miles of Carmel... 1, 5, 58, 25, 101, 156, 129, 123, 198, G16 (lived on it), and some I want to keep for myself.. (no pun intended) However, there is this one stretch of road that's in San Luis Obispo County that runs out to Lake Nascimiento from Paso Robles, that's so much fun in the 928 (especially since it was just repaved with smooth as glass tarmac), that it just makes you appreciate the car.. The good part is that you can loop around the back roads and get on 46 towards the PCH, and get hte US version of the Sea to Sky highway, as the road drops down from the hills to the ocean... not too many bears either.. I used to do a loop on Sundays off of G16 to 101 to Paso to Nascimiento Rd, cut over to 46, then head back up to Carmel on PCH, and cut back to G16 to the house...
Of course, let's not forget the 'ring... The best road on the planet, gets my vote for #1 road in the world, all categories mentioned above, and no speed limit... How in the world can you beat that.....? Anyone who has tried it can attest to it. Even if you were in a Fiesta...!
Hopefully some of the europeans will chime in...!

The Kankamangus in Northern NH, 26 Miles long end to end, great elevation changes, tight curves long sweepers, and short straight sections. Do it early am and there is no one on it. A great run, just beware entering Lincoln they are serious about the speed limit in town. I usually run it Lincoln to N. Conway and then back to Lincoln. Just do not run it in the fall, the leaf peepers have traffic at a standstill

Ron, I just double-checked -- the road that runs north through the east bay foothills is also called Mines Road. It runs from the Upper San Antonio Valley(East of Lick Observatory) and runs along a valley(more of a shallow gorge) north to Livermore. That's a gorgeous road, a twisty rollercoaster that I would rate a Cat 2. I haven't been on that road in the shark yet, but my Z-car ate it up.

Japan also has an excellent (IMO) mass transit system: clean, efficient, convenient, affordable, widespread. I could get anywhere I needed to go in Tokyo or other cities quickly, and at anytime day or night without fear of getting lost or beaten up. That was some time ago. The streets were so narrow, cars like our american monsters would be of little use to them. We need to start thinking differently and more realistically IMO.
Oops! I meant to post this on the last page. Sorry about that.
Dave, I am not sure of the name of the road. I think we did Mines once or twice for a BAR fun run, and then we did the road below Hollister two or three times. The first time myself and Toby were chasing his dad in a "vette who was showing us the way, having never been on that road before. A bit on edge a few times and couldn't figure out why I kept getting brake fade 'til I got back and had only about 1/32" left on the front pads.

Brian, was one of the first roads I mentioned...we ran it for the first Sharktoberfest fun run....know it well, it it IS a Category 3 if you drive it the way we do!
This is great! I am learning about new roads that I pass by every year. I plan to take a few of these in my next travels north! I guess at some point, I need to combine all of these and make a user freindly list that we can post somewhere...where the link goes to the map.
Right on, keep 'em comin! Let's keep the focus on roads in the US...as we know, European roads are awesome, but we aren't going to be driving our cars on them anytime soon!
Thanks to all for listing! I think this will inform a lot of folks on the Rennlist over some nice US roads.
