Going to be awhile though because I am tapped $-wise out for 928 stuff... spent too much on the steering rack and motor mounts this week.

Nicole is right (of course). The guides have more to do with the window rattle when lowered. Dan Brindle has a guide to replacing them. They aren't real inexpensive either. You can try to shim them, as he describes. I replaced mine, but the windows still are completely rattle-free. Here is Dan's great guide.

The link below has a written description of the process. I've checked archive.org (which is a wonderful resource if you've never used it before) to no avail.

I'd rather have nice quiet working windows and a nice quiet picnic

Euro S motor makes the windows rattle? Solution is still the same. New plastic guides and new felt will usually take care of it. Window rocking under the 310hp accelleration particularly in the lower (manual trans) gears supplied with that engine, that may require the rollers that Mark mentioned.
That $37 pad cost? You should have bought spares ten years ago when that was the price.
There's some good guidance on the plastic guides that slide on the guide rods, around fitment and not overtightening the screws.
Clean the little gearbox on the window motor, getting the old cake of wax out of there and replacing it with some good grease. Easy WYAIT, makes things a LOT smoother and faster.

Oh, wow.
That's great. Dan the Pod Guy's site went down after he died.
It had lots of great stuff, especially interior stuff (doors, sunroof, that sort of stuff).
Glad to see there's a way to get to it.
Thanks.
