virtually nothing in common Jim, but the overall looks, engine placement. I think the designers needed to produce the "look" of the GT40 but with todays technology..hence alot of the 60's can't or won't work on the production cars of today. I don't know if thats a good thing or bad thing

"Beating a Modena these days isn't much of a badge of honor @ that price."

1.4 secs better per lap is really more of a 'trouncing' than a beating.

Fogey- "Channelling Johnny Cochran: "An amazing feat, but incomplete."

And they had had more than 40 years to work on it. So how did they screw up the suspension and and motor? When they could have just made replicas."

The GT is an all new car, designed from the ground up as an all new car. The fact that the body is almost identical is because it's the ideal shape for a race car, lol. They tried a lot of wind tunnel stuff, and they kept getting led back to the original GT shape.

No surprise, considering that the original GT40 is pretty close to motorsport perfection.

I can get into problems with the 928s that were still present even after 15 years of production. We in glass houses should not cast stones.

Yea....MANY of which were caused by a group of electrical engineers that were experimenting with LSD (a la Timothy Leary - NOT Lim. Slip!!)!

I work for Dan Gurney. His wife Evi gave him one for his birthday this year, she even had the roof bubble put on it. He takes it out about once a month for a weekend. Two weeks ago he was getting it out for a ride, when he opened the passenger door the silver trim ring fell off from the inside door panel. The trim ring is made of plastic and held on with double sided tape. It is an awsome car and this is a small thing compaired to the suspension and other problems but for $150K I would expect a better product.

Ding ding ding! Yep, Gandini stole shamelessly from the GT40 for the Muira. He also was on the team with Guigiaro that did the Bora, but I don't see much influence there.

Heh, i bet the original 928 owners who died in accidents related to the poorly concieved aluminum ball joints on early 928s feel much the same way. "Gee, i rather wish my new Porsche's front wheel hadn't fallen off at 70mph..."

Or the poor fella in the other thread who now has a siezed motor because of his torque tube walking on reinstall, and he was even paying out the wazoo to have it dealer serviced. The same dealer that's pretty much now telling him to eff off. Porsche doesn't exactly have a sterling record of customer satisfaction either(ask the Cayenne owners).

But to me this stuff should be expected from an exotic. The very term itself pretty much dictates it's gonna be expensive to own, and at times also very tempermental, lol.

High performance airplanes are the same way. Very moody, prone to minor glitches, extremely expensive to fix, but also tremendously rewarding to pilot.

Hey wait....so are beautiful women.

Not trying to give ya crap for calling Ford(F'ed Over Rebuilt Dodge) on the carpet for the GTs flaws, i'm just pointing out that our own exotics are every bit as flawed as the GT.

It's part of what gives cars like ours their 'character'.

My buddy works at Ford. I like to joke with him about the Ford GT when I tell him:

"At the end of the day, it's still a Ford"

That episode of Top Gear was on last night on Discovery chanel, it was the one with the Ford GT. He was very impressed with the car and there will be 23 or so imported into the UK and he is buying one of them. My impression of the GT what an amazing, powerful, good looking car that is. I read earlier on this thread that the car broke down and they couldnt finish the review, I saw nothing of the sort. Also I went to the auto show here is SLC and the Ford GT was there, I asked the price of the car and the responded 140+ BUT you can get one for about 250-280. Still an awesome machine.

I don't know if the its still a Ford comment worked in 1966 - 1969 when the GT40's won Lemans four years in a row. That record still stands only matched once by Porsche in the 80's. I bet Ferrari, Jag, Porsche, GM et al were rather mum back then. I think in 66 or 67 they finished 1, 2, & 3.

I would say that a Pantera would be the excellent deal in mid engine exotics. They need to be sorted to drive really well, but a lot of scoot for the price. I am trying to back off the perfection thing where cars are concerned. They are mechanical beasts and I have never found a perfect car yet. Buy them, sort them and drive them, that's my thing. They all have a personality, and the Ford GT must be a sweetheart if Dan Gurney takes one out for a weekends worth of driving. He has driven a car or two, and even built a few. High expectations are premeditated resentments. Cars are pretty fun for what they are. Would you continue to date a PITA just because they are good in bed? Time will tell. Porschophiles continue to lambaste the 928 as not a proper Porsche. Sports car enthusiasts acclaim it as a supercar classic. I'm an enthusiast.
Time will tell about the Ford GT. At least they had the brass to build it, and the ability to make it available. Hope anyone who would buy one could A Ford to keep one up. Probably with A Porsche on of the money some of us spend on our old crocks. I mean classic rides.
