Drewster- there is another thread called "Race Door Interior Panels" - take a photo of the inside of your doors and post it over there for an example of the ultimate lightweight 928 door looks like from the inside.

I did offer that for almost 2 years with no takers. Then I dropped the product. The only working copy I have is on my race car right now. Its awesome and working very well.

I can even make them with the timing gear on the aluminum flywheel if there was any demand for it. So far, there hasn't been.

OK I read this thread about Shark diets and wonder if some the time we are playing around to much with the cars weight distributionas as planned by the designers. It makes sense, the light body work at the front where the engine is versus the heavy at the back where the gear box is thus the almost 50/50 weight distribution.

I see sense in lightening the top ie the sun roof and even the rear hatch or the insides such as seats and other fittings and accessories, but what is the effect of all this on handling and performance?

After just finishing pulling my parts car appart I can tell you that there are many kilo's of dirt that can be cleaned out in the most unusual spots in a car 20 years old, I suggest this as a starter, but as to the rest I wonder how much do we really gain. I also rekon putting me on a diet would help by a few kilos at least lol.

Just interested in how much extra can be gained from all this dieting.

So you no longer make your lightened flywheel Carl? With the replacable friction surface?

agug928 - the CW (Conventional Wisdom) is that it takes 1 HP to accelerate 10 pounds... or the other way around.... every 10 pounds you strip out of the car is worth the equiveleant of 1 HP.

Many have said that it is easier to take weight out of the rear of the 928 than the front, so, YES, if one is not aware, they can disturb your front/rear weight bias by just doing one end of the car.

Brendan: you are correct. We no longer make the aluminum flywheel with the replaceable steel insert. Put together a group buy of 5 or so and I'll make them. No problem. I gotta tell ya... the Great White Shark revs like a madman with the aluminum flywheel. I'm running it this Saturday at Road America.

The dirt thing is spot on. Pressure washers are great for that.

When you remove weight from the rear, AND the front, you can move some back to the rear - accusump for one if racing, leave the rear bumper ON, or maybe put the pump for your supercharger cooling system back there - as well as the reservior.... Put your radio amp back there.

Not at all. You dont even notice it IMO. (sorry for the delay in responding) - Dan Warner - from Exotic Motorwerks, did all the fabrication for my track shark. The plate was a bonus feature Dan through in "just because". I tell you - Warner is such a fanatic about detail and performance - his work is phenomenal. Ask me how I ate a Lotus a modded C5 and a few other "track" cars at FireBird. It's all him.

Drop him a line - 6028403420 - Im sure he'll be happy to give you heads up about it!

I've pulled my front bumper to see what weight I can cut out of it. It weighs 35 pounds with the lights and mounting struts left in.

I'm making aluminum mounts for it, and removing all the extra material I can. In my case, the lights will be going back into it - you could save more by leaving them out.

You can save 22 pounds by removing the dash, not including the extra weight savings from the heater and AC core. Unfortunately, I did not measure my heater/AC core before I chucked it.

I bet the double dip galvanization on the bottom of the 928 weighs a ton.
