Thanks Dr Nick - I like all the posts from racers who have bothered to weigh a bucket of parts they just removed.... on occasion, a new racer will ask where to start on his/her weight saving 928 diet. A list like this is invaluable - shows where the biggest gains are for the hours spent doing it.

I hope many others will continue to post their findings.

Frome Hacker-Pschorr:
My track car still has the heater core and blower. My first step this spring is removing this stuff - any idea how much all of this weighs?
I took my heater core out years ago and I did not bother to weigh it - I wish I woulda.

Please post how much it and the AC evaporator core weigh when you get them out.

Carl,
The HVAC box complete with the heater core and evaporator core is 17Lbs for an MY84 and 18Lbs for a MY94. The blower weighs 4Lbs.
Hope this helps.
Roger

Dare I say....Replace the 928 engine with a small block chevy...lose 150 pounds....gain an xtra 150HP and another 150 ft. lbs. torque. With 450 hp you won't have to go on a diet!.

Replace the 928 engine with a small block chevy...
Argh! Dr Evil speaks. Even I have my limits to what is an allowed alteration - and my limits are further than most. But that's past my limits.

Then why molest a shark? Just buy a chevy if that's what you want.

With all due respect to the opinions expressed here...the actual problem is, apparently, the heavy factory lug nuts.

"Replace your heavy factory lug nuts with these Ultra-strong and Lightweight forged alloy nuts. Lighter lug nuts will provide more power to the wheels, better braking, superior handling while improving the looks of your car."

I just pulled an HVAC setup, it weighs @20#s
I also have a complete wiring harness, including fuse/relay panel, it weighs @50#s

Both are available if someone needs one, they came out of an 86 auto

Stan - just looking for a clarification for the list I am making up.... when you say "the HVAC setup weighed 20 pounds" I think you mean the AC compressor, condensor core (radiator) and drier. Or were you talking other?

So the under-dash air box with the AC evaporator core and the heater core weighed 20 pounds? Good to know.

Sorry Roger, I was just pulling one, and remembered Carl had asked in this thread what the component weighed. I figured the HVAC was the least likely component someone would be removing (other than a racer).

Just trying to help out

Hi Stan,
No problem just wanted to know if the info was useful.
I have a ton of parts here and it is easy for me to weigh them on my shipping scales and help out even though I am not into racing like the rest of you.
Roger
