I just had the car corner balanced and aligned after installing the new Bilstein sport suspension. The total weight ended up being 3505 pounds with a half tank of gas and no occupant. I thought these cars weighed in at closer to 3600 pounds sans fluids.

BTW the new bilstein suspension is awesome. I had 57k miles on the Boge sport shock and they appear to be OK but do not respond quickly. The new bilsteins are crisp and the car is smooth as galss all the way up to 110 which is all i had room for testing. Before she would bounce around and felt rough over the bumps. If you are running Boge shocks with more than 50k on them I highly recommend switching.

I've had my Euro on the scale at 3090 lbs. Maybe 1/4 tank of gas. Just a few mechanical things missing (cruise, tools, spare tire).

My '80 Euro S was 3180# stock, was up to 3349# for PCA club racing in stock class, and was 2650# at last weighing

So what makes the GTS so much heavier? All the rear A/c etc or is it more? When I compare it to my turbo I find that the engine on the GTS weighs over 100 pounds less than the turbo engine and yet the turbo only weighs 3050 stock. Yes it is a smaller car but you really feel that extra 450 pounds in the GTS which apparently is not as much of an issue on the earlier cars. The turbo also has steel hoods, doors etc.

Stan 2650 is a nice weight. I am assuming it is totally gutted for track use?

Yes, the most inexpensive speed found in a 928 is by removing weight

My stock 88 S4 auto with rmb weighed 3460lbs with about 1/3 of a tank (no driver).

Are you sure about that? A GTS engine (with all accessories) weighs more than 600 lbs

According to the PCNA spec book I have the GTS engine weighs in at 545 and the trubo engine at 650. Now they are not clear whether that includes all the extras like radiators, cooling fans etc. I don't believe the turbo engine includes the extra oil coolers, lines and other cooling fans so I doubt these numbers include it for the GTS.

Stan quite impressive. It looks like you saved about 50 pounds just be getting rid of the fuse panel. They sure do look different without all the luxury stuff, it must feel cavernous inside.

So the stories I have heard about Porsche weighing these things without engine oil or coolant in order to show lower weights are nothing more than BS.

I recall reading somewhere - for every 100# you can shed, it is equal to about 10 hp!

I don't know about those stories, but my car at 2650# is ready for the driver to strap in, and run a few laps. Call it qualifying trim.

Funny about the wiring, I have almost all the wiring and fuse panel removed from an '86.5 and suspect 50# would be on the light side.

Using a wire brush to remove all the sound deadening stuff saves quite a bit too.

Of course Mark A. really did it right by having his car acid dipped (a thought I have for the tub or another chassis I have).

Wow more than 50 pounds of wiring huh. The previous 911 I had, was acid dipped and I was told it took off close to 100 pounds.(this may have included some of the sound deading also) When you start getting down closer to 2000 pounds it really makes you feel like you are in a go cart. I am sure your 928 must be a blast to drive at 2650.

Was that with the rollbar added? Full cage? I take it you were running in G. Did you need to add any weights to meet the 3439 lb weight spec?

I read a good way of figuring the amount, for your particular car. Divide the stock weight by the horsepower (or torque). Each time you take out the result in weight, you 'gain' one horsepower. Eg. on my '81: 3385lbs / 220HP = 15.4; I've taken about 460lbs out, so I've 'added' 30 HP.

At ~2925lbs, and dynoed ~190WHP/220WTQ, my car is a joy to drive, darty and quick. Especially compared to the slug it was when I bought it.
