It's different. Caravaned over to Spokane with Adam, Thurston and Turbo Tom a while back and it was fun to watch the look on peoples face when they saw it ws a Shark that was spool'n up the Turbo.

eh..i blew by him

I will say it has an interesting exhaust note, then again, all the cars on boost do. Whistle...whine...whatever...but the cars respond well to it!
Neat seeing it and hearing it in the flesh. Some pretty inovative work goign on.
Cant wait to see how it progresses and what Mark is doign in TX.

Sub - to the question of the 2V. The car was a 32V, and thats all I know of right now with the rear mount stuff.

The 2V will ALWAYS sound mean. Mean spirited, and angry! More angry then the 4V

Haha...been out all day..missed most of this.....but I suppose I should comment given that it is on my car....

Yep....not much time to troubleshoot...currently running 30lb injectors and it's mega rich...part of the idle problem H refers too...startup is a bear..but once warm it runs nice...idles up and down due to the vacuum line the dyno tech "pulled off" haha.

Sound...It is hard to describe...kind of like an xpipe sans cats-gt resonator and rear muffler bypass..loud..but not totally overbearing. The turbo adds a unique note for sure..Im sure all of you have passed a Semi truck running up a hill..that high pitch is what my car has too....but just a little meaner..from the outside. In the inside it is like sitting in a jet airplane..that is throttling up and down.

Performance is nice..with my GT the boost comes on around 2500 and builds strong to 3000k and is full boost after that. Easiest way to describe is for those that have driven a GT..or GT cammed car....power is almost exactly coincident with the GT cams...but these cams are on steroids..pulls so hard up top you really need to pay attention..(5lbs boost right now).
On the way down to Sharktoberfest Chris F and I met up with an older gentleman in a 993...who wanted to play..he passed us on the right doing about a 100..and Chris just floored it....he shifted at 145..and I came up on him extremely fast....Don't think the 993 guy knew what hit him...but shortly thereafter....my hood when ...phoooomf....for lack of a better description..and all that power i had...was gone.....limped to the side of the road....and found I blew the MAF right out of the hole haha..(sound familiar Mark R)....could'nt get a good screwdriver on the clamp to tighten down..so took it easy for the rest of the trip...would have loved to scream up the mountain..or pull a Bill Ball ..but i had 1100s mile to make it home...so I took it easy for the most part.

Once we have time, we will get dynojet numbers..(have some dyno dynamics dyno runs with an a/f of 10.6:1...so you know I'm rich, but will post some the dynojet once we get them)

Current plans are to use the SMT 6 piggyback to handle the fuel and ign retard/adv as well as possibly going down to 24 lb injectors. Also using a Greedy Protec IIB to control the turbo/wastegate (currently off)..so boost (even with the 5lb spring)is virtually unlimited...That Greddy is a cool tool all in itself....

So..there you have it....So far I think I have logged about 4000 miles on the car with turbo.

Once we get more information ..you can be sure we'll post it..

later,
Tom

I can't wait for more info!!!!!!!!! I'm chomping at the bit to do the rear mount on my own. Biggest reason for my decision to go with the rear mount is cost. Hopefully I can get a few tips from some of you RT guys, to keep me on track. Best of luck to all of you.

Why does it have to be a kit ? Is there anyone here that has fabed one?

I'm just wondering where the complications are in the tuning aspect.
Like dose it matter the size of the exhaust to the turbo in the rear, is biger better or would you want velocity with a smaller pipe to the turbo.
What size turbo to make a nice drivable car where it comes on fairly early but doesn't run out at the top.

I have seen a lot of thread from the past but it seems like no one every finished them.

Why?
No braggers ! And I wonder why. Anyone?

Cheers
Matt

JT's kit has been running around the Pacnw forever...there are two here...89S4 AT and an 88S4 AT..both run great and have for a while. I had one (the one that is on the 88) on my 89GT for about 3 years...ran great and was only running it with the SMT piggyback and 24lb inj. Took it off to go through the engine and deal with a bunch of unrelated stuff..(GT is going back to basically stock)...

Talk to (name has been removed)....he's working with JT to put a rear turbo on his S4...

Mark Robinson has a "kit" that he made for awhile...his car is an 86.5 and is a real screamer w/ the rear turbo and yes, inlet and turbine sizes make a HUGE difference in turbo land! If you don't know about the differences then you need to take a year off to learn before you start screwing around with putting your own thing together and hoping for a good outcome...

This thread is not about Mark Robinson's efforts. It is about the rear-turbo setup that is installed instead of the rear muffler (so if you look into the tailpipe you can actually see the impeller). Mark's turbo placement is further towards the front of the car.

Dan,

True that...but it is not MUCH further forward of that...in fact just on the other side of where the muffler would be...
