Isnt all that going on in your neck of the woods Pat?

heres a company that has them going on some GM type stuff.
Watch the videos of the cars at the drag strip...they fly off the line.

This impressed me also...taking the effort to go through that hassle!
On August 5th, STS received a CARB EO #, for the Camaro, 5.3L and 6.0L GM Trucks/SUVs and the Pontiac GTO. These turbo systems are covered under EO# D-593.

Those GTO's are damn impressive in the videos...10.66 at 130MPH with less than 10pounds of boost!

Friend of mine just bought one of those as a second car to her Shark(83US).

They're giving them away, she got a leftover with like 140 miles on the odometer for about $3k under wholesale. Very fast cars, but i think they're kinda ugly.

Tony
Take a look at streefire.net There is a 02-03 Benz S600 renntech on there at the sacramento track....it runs between 12.2 to 11.6 all night long...smoking almost everybody else....the big tank even was getting 1.7 60 foot times!!! Not bad for a 5000lb car! It had to have 600+hp to get those type of numbers? I've seen E55's run low 12's high 11's with slicks on stock engines too! Theres a bunch of cars on dragtimes.com as well!

i think you're gonna be waiting a very long time for a bolt on rear mounted turbo kit. it's probably not profitable to develop a kit for the 928. i don't understand, is a supercharger just not enough power? why not get the supercharger and if the rear mount kit ever develops, which i doubt, then sell the supercharger? maybe the supercharger will be enough to satisfy you.

Tony, there is a vast performance difference between the LS-1 powered 04 model and the LS-2 6.0liter 05 model.

The 05 six speeds run the 1/4 mile in the low 13 second range.

jyoon- i'm still not really sold on the rear mount kits. I don't see how they can possibly match the spool up time of the front mount kits, but then they're very new, so i'm willing to reserve judgement till more info is available.

Having see the setup with my own eyes I would have to disagree with this.

Pat, Tony is right, query the PacNW list as the guys doing this are on it. Adam and Thurston are/were working with them on some of the finishing touches, maybe give 'em a call!

Anyone got pix of the rear mount kit on the 928?

I'm very curious to see how it looks installed.

At least some of the reasons people are looking for a rear turbo:

1. A turbo seems more Porsche-like.
There's been a lot of foctory turbo Porsches (most of them rear turbos too ), but AFAIK not many supercharged ones.

2. Turbos are theoretically more efficient.
Although I doubt at reasonable boost pressures anyone would see a difference.

3. Supercharger seem a little crude.
Just a personal opinion partly due to #1 and #2 and partly due to the big superchargers sticking out of hoods on the drag cars I grew up around and also the multitudes of supercharged 5.0 Mustangs kids seem to be driving today

4. A rear turbo kit might be cheaper than a superchager.
Maybe. Depends on a lot of things.

5. A rear turbo kit might be more simple than a SC.
No complicated brackets or manifolds

6. Less mucking around with the stock parts would make it easier to go back to stock later.
At least in the engine compartment.

7. Less stress on the crank bearings due to SC belt tension.
I've never heard of anyone here having a problem, but I've always wondered.

"1. A turbo seems more Porsche-like."

ABSOLUTELY!

"2. Turbos are theoretically more efficient."

It's not theory...it's the truth. And a more accurate statement would be VASTLY more efficient.

You would definitely see a difference. To drive a supercharger at 8psi vs a turbo at 8psi, you're talking a hell of a lot less parasitic loss. PSI for PSI a turbo requires FAR less power to drive.

"4. A rear turbo kit might be cheaper than a superchager."

The real advantadge should be in keeping underhood temps down. Way down.

"5. A rear turbo kit might be more simple than a SC."

LOTS of plumbing though.

I love turbos.

yes, several reasons a rear turbo appeals: cost; simplicity; less parasitic losses
