I found a source on the web that looks like they might work. www.beingseen.com located in Massachusets. I got wrapped up with work yesterday and didn't call them. I'll call them today to see if they might work.

FYI... I just got off the phone with Ed from beingingsee.com (1-888-457-0117) and he can supply 2" x 10" strips in any of 8 colors (Red, Blue, Yellow, Green, White, Ice Blue, Royal Blue, & Purple) with transformers for $72.71. I told him that was quite high, but he said there are 2 kinds of EL strips - 500 hour and 5000 hour strips. His are the 5000 hour strips and he thought the ones off of Ebay are the 500.
Anyway, I'm sticking with the ones I got off of Ebay, but I thought I'd share just in case anyone HAD TO HAVE these in a different color.

Let's see, if the door is open for approx 1 minute every time you get in or out then 500 hours would be 30,000 openings. Divide by 2 and that's 15,000 trips (figuring you get in once and out once each trip). 2 trips a day and that's be 7,500 days. Or 20.5 years.
Yeah, seems like the 500 hours ones should be fine.

Ed also offer up some stuff about how well is it sealed, and does it illuminate evenly? Stuff like that. For me it's all about 80/20. I'll stick with the EBAY dude.

Andrew,
"beingseen" has got to be about the most expensive EL on the planet.
Given how easy it is to change the strips out - why would you worry!

I have been waiting for red ever since Schocki did his.
$70 is to high.
Andrew,
Do you think that the white light would shine through a thin layer of red paper giving a red color?

Does it have the "Do It Yourself" manual transmission, or the superior "Fully Equipped by Porsche" Automatic Transmission?

Rog -
I'd imagine that using a transparent red film would work well. You can get coloured film (gel) at most photography stores.

Randy/Rog,
Yes absolutely - the red film shipped with the kits from All Electronics works well - I tried it before switching to yellow film. The El is basically just about white (pink when off) with the colored film both the on and off color is close to the same - they have red/yellow/green/blue - so you should be able to do the same with hobby shop etc materials...

I've got all the parts and will be doing mine this weekend.
Question on removal of the plastic 'rivet' - Alan previously indicated removal is done by 'pushing' the center pin in. Can the pin be recovered for reuse?
Andrew indicates 'prying' the rivet out with screwdrivers.
Which method best results in the rivet staying intact for reuse?
