Default Zaino results...

Thought I would post my results using the Zaino treatment for the first time. Overall, I am very pleased. The stuff is not cheap, but it doesn't require a ton of polish for each treatment, so I imagine I will have it around for quite some time.

I will post more pics in the direct sunlight, but with the humidity and the smog here in N. Virginia, that may be a few days. Even so, it is pretty easy to see the results. The first picture is the hood - looks much better with that dark purple paint. The second picture is the drivers fender with a bit more direct light on it - looks good eh? The last picture is the drivers door before Zaino - that is what the fender looked like before the treatment. Pretty dramatic change...

I used Zaino 1, 2, 5 and 7, plus a clay bar before I started - all in all, it is a pretty good treatment, but it is time consuming...well worth the effort though!

Looks great! I've not tried the clay bar yet but have the rest of the kit and the Zaino that I applied to my 928 last year still looks good but I guess it's time to coat it again.

On my 968, it appears that I have acid rain damage to the paint, mostly the hood. I'm going to try and buff it out and then use the Zaino treatment.

I've been using Zaino for two years and I'm very pleased with it.

Follow the Zaino process - New Dawn wash, clay bar, another wash followed by 3 coats Zaino over a few days and the results are stunning.

I'm now trying a new product - Rejex http://www.rejexusa.com/ (not related at all to the company or principals, I'm just a customer) and the results are pretty impressive, even compared to Zaino. The Rejex polymer was apparently formulated for the USAF to keep jet exhaust stains off the aircraft and it works very well. It's at least as good as Zaino, and perhaps even a little better on a dark color car. I've applied a few coats to my 968Cab and it looks a little deeper shine than the Zaino that was on the car before.

Interestingly enough, DEVEK had a professional detailer at their facilities for last weeks event. He pretty much said that one is wasting their money on this stuff as there are other products that have the same ingredients and the same results can be achieved for way cheaper. It's all about marketing I guess.

At any rate, don't shoot me, I am just the messanger, I have never tried the stuff and have always heard good things about it. I forget which product he recommended, but I am sure someone will chime in that was there and remembers.

Just remember, you can't polish a turd, you must have a very good paint job and clear coat to get the desired results.

I'm sure you're right and that there are much cheaper long chain polymer finishes out there. It's just that I don't know their names.
Actually, you'd be surprised what you can do with a Porter Cable polisher, some fine compound, and a good finish like Zaino. You can actually end up with a very well finished turd.

Yes true and my turd needs a new coat. There's a guy here that can give me a new coat for around $3000. Not bad in my book.

LOTS of history on Rejex...do a search....I LOVE IT! (There's actually a distributor that gives special pricing to R'list members) And have NEVER had anything so easy to use! Wipe on - let dry - wipe off - no buffing necessary!

Some of you saw my shark at Devek Days.... last time I put anything but soap and water on it was before last year's Sharktoberfest, and water still beads like crazy and the car has a nice shine IMHO except where the roof is going a bit dull(6 of those months parked outside with a car cover). It's kind of evolved into a longevity experiment, partly due to me being too busy to fuss with it over the last few months... but my original intent was to apply a fresh coat of Rejex every 6 months. I can't imagine going back to carnauba again, which lasted maybe two or three weeks at best. Right now, after 10 months, my car shines better than a carnauba wax job after a week!

P.S. No affiliation... just damn satisfied.

Speaking of finishes.
Are the 85/ 86 928's clear coated ?
I have noticed on my black 86 that the aluminum hood, fenders and doors take waxes differently than the roof and rear sections. The aluminum sections streak and are cloudy even after trying all the so-callled high end waxes.
The best results come from Zymol's black tinted glaze. The wax has black pigments in it.
Zymol is applied with the bare hand to melt the carnuba and wiped off before it dries. Very easy and a spectacular shine although short lived.
Still the hood and fenders never look as good as the rest of the car.
Mequire's no.26 proffessional yellow wax also works well.
Zymol products have the shine edge though IMO.

Is it possible that your fenders and hood are painted differently? I suspect the front end of the car is base clear and the rear is factory single stage.

Good luck.

Grabner, great results and such a beautiful color too! I use Zaino myself on both cars and the result is incredibly nice. Last weekend on the 928 I used clay (Meguiar's Mirror Glaze) followed by dish-washing liquid, before Zaino Z1 and Z3 (my GP White is definetely not clear coated) plus Z6 . Works really well, and the shine is knee deep! Several applications of Z3-Z6 works best. But, it most certainly is a "show car" polish as it seems to work best on paintwork already in a good condition.
Then, by sunset, it is just to get a chair and your favourite coffee and sit and admire the setting sun along the reflecting side of the car

Dave's right... the metal underneath is irrelevant. Suspect that the front was resprayed and inspect accordingly.

Damm a 4 step treatment plus a time consuming clay bar treatment....you had to spend all day detailing your car! Sure does look nice!

Personally I like Rejex...I use it on my wheels and it really helps repel brake dust...just remember that Rejex is not a cleaner type wax...it is a pure sealant and nothing more...so it will coat over even the smallest water spots or dirt....use it after a nice cleaner/polisher to get best results! I'm going to use a three step process on my car before the next concours....polish...sealant...rejex..maybe even a claybar too?
