284 at the rears for a 4.7 is quite high. the 5 liter 2 valver in question is 305hp at the rears, so you are talking about 20hp more for the 300ccs. you have a strong 4.7 as well.

the formula is the rear wheelhp, divided by .85 (15% loss)
dont use the corrected term, leave that for the atomsperic correction factors.

so, 285 is 335 hp flywheel (aprox) and 305 is near 360hp flywheel

355 for the 285 rear wheel auto. man, thats strong@!!!!!!

I still dont quite see how you get 360 bhp from 305 rwhp ?? Are you saying you have a 55 bhp transmission loss, between Crank and wheels ? Is this a manual or auto ?

Or do american dynos work differently ?

All the best Brett

What definition are you using for 1 horsepower?
U.S. = 745.69 watts
ROW = 735.49 watts (metric hp)

Hi MARK,

Thanks for the info.I dont know if it helps but my torque figures were (uncorrected, straight from graph) 250 up to around 3300 revs then dropped to around 230 and stayed there in an almost straight line until rev limiter kicked in at around 6300.

I am also considering X-Pipes on top of my rmb, would you think this would increase hp and by how much roughly ?

All the best Brett

Hi DAVE,

I dont know

It was done on a "DYNO DYNAMICS DYNOMOMETER" if it helps, the guys running it also said it measures "TRACTIVE EFFORT" and converts it to bhp...

Would it make a hp difference ??

This was at SILVERSTONE in U.K by the way

All the best Brett

probably not apples and apples. the best 2 valve euro 4.7 ive heard of was in the 275 rear wheel hp range and my 5 liter 2 valve with 82 euro stuff on it made at best , 293rwhp, but later settled out to 285 at the wheels. (and thats with the AFM on a US ljet system so, 5 liter with the CIS or some other aftermarket fuel air metering system is more like what JV is advertising. 305 at the wheels. (there is the 15hp difference for removing the "restrictor" of the US system on a 5 liter 2 valve set up.
sure shows that the 2 valve euro heads and cams sure are pretty comparable to the S4 stuff, even with GT cams!!!!

Are the cams euro 85 or euro 82 on that 5 liter JV??

Cams are 80 EuroS reworked by Elgin.

I would be more than happy to take measurements and pull the motor once someone is serious about a purchase. The list is right at the start of the thread of what was done in January.
FYI-Did a leak down a few months back for a potential buyer. Most were 2% with one at 3%.

I have built a motor, a 4.5L. Now I am building the 5.0L 32V now as well.

This is a GREAT price for a PROPERLY appointed motor. I'd buy it in a second if I had room. The euro LH intake is awesome. Great potential.

There's a couple recent threads on 16V engines. I figured I'd add my .02.
Several years ago when I first got my 80 928 it had numerous oils leaks and I looked into rebuilding it and adding some more power.
After talking with the big 3, machine shops, and various other sources, it was debatable whether or not the 16V could get to 350 HP within a reasonable budget.

The numbers were high and added up quickly and that's what makes John's engine such a good buy.
If anything like it were available, I'd have snapped it up.
In the end I spent 3K on a conversion kit and 4K on rebuilding an LT1. It has over 350 HP, but here's an original Porsche 928 16V with 360HP!
Anybody that has an OB and the cash should pick up this engine. If you can't use it now, think of it as an investment. There's a lot of work and parts needed to get a 16V up to this level.

Come to think of it,,,,, (going to check my finances),,,,,
