Default Where is the pollen filter?

Anyone know where I might find the pollen filters? I have tried a search but no joy and there is nothing in my handbook though my car is August 95 GTS and therefore should have them. Fresh air flow isn't great and I am just wondering whether 10 year old pollne filters are to blame - they certainly were in a 5 year old M5 I had.
Thanks guys
Mark

If you find it, let us know. I'd like to retrofit one to my 90' if that's possible.

I looked in the PET parts database once and it shows the pollen filter to the rear of the evaporator housing as if it only filters the center vent. But I never checked to see if the housing was a different part number.

Under normal conditions, the particle filter should be replaced every 15,000 miles.

The filter is replaced by removing a screw inside the engine compartment, near the center of the car, at the base of the windshield.

Pollen Filter was only fitted to the 94 & 95 cars.
Not on the 93 early and late models.
Ask me how I know?

Roger is correct, according to the Porsche documentation for the '94 GTS - no idea why PET shows it starting in '92.

Well, that's today's 'learn somethin' new...' for me!

Sure enough, under the long plastic cover that runs along the base of the windshield is a small black plastic cover, center of the car, held in place by a T-20 torx head fastener. Removing that cover reveals a small filter element approx. 8" long X 6" wide.

Mine was clogged and filthy, so I washed it in warm water and Simple Green, rinsed it a few times then let it dry before reinstalling it. That should be an improvement until I buy a new replacement filter.

Yep, Randy. Instead you don't have the intensive washer system - which nobody ever used anyway, so it seems...

Herman K has some photos of this on his car... we met for lunch recently and as this is the one 94 upgrade I wish I had (that the early cars like mine dont have) - I was interested to see how it was implemented. Its pretty much just a slot cut in the top of the air intake with a screw down cover over it - there are also some location tabs for the filter - but its a pretty simple change. I had envisaged a totally re-plumbed/reconfigured air intake

Borland - I don't see why it couldn't be retrofitted (e.g. cut slot - fabricate your own cover) to a '92/'93 (or earlier) - but the fan resistor pack is slightly different between a 93 & 94 so assume thats related to the space needed for the filter...

That does represent all the airflow - all the redirection happens after that point.

No matter how much its going to cost my '92 will have it eventually. For now there are more pressing needs in it.

It do not have intensive washer. Seems it was option in German cars at least. I have always liked it in BMW's. Very useful in bad conditions.

I have been planning on just tying a cloth over the intake. Should work too. Better than getting the evaporator DEEP IN THERE as clogged as it always is. Thanks Alan I shal put that on my short list.

I also want to see a photo of this.....I would imagine the filter would stop some nastiness like this from getting in your evaporator....(what I found when I changed the recirc flap)

I have a 94 HVAC unit complete with pollen filter ready to put into my 93 GTS when I fit the new "Paul Champagne" leather dash.

You can see the clip at the bottom of the evaporater where the filter locates.

Roger - so the mod to the resistor pack is that its all on the outside now? or is it half & half?

can you see if the attachment to the intake is the same - e.g. could you just swap the '93 Rx pack for the '94 Rx pack and mod the intake plenum to accept the filter?
What is the probe thing close to the evaporator in the picture Brian posted - temp probe / freeze switch? where is this on the '94

Alan
