Mark,
FYI, in the days before Rennlist, the F-pump on my 85 S packed it in. I purchased a rebuilt fuel pump from a Porsche shop in Chicago (Part-werks??). It was crap and lasted 2 weeks. I sent it back "2" more times. The longest each replacement pump lasted was 1 month. One of the rebuilds was so shotty, that the working end of the pump rotated in the blue exterior sleave . With the shipping, customs, import duty, etc, I was into the cost of a new dealer pump.
While at a scrap yard for a heater fan motor for a friends Jetta I noticed that an early to mid 80's VW Golf F-pump looked identical (I had become very familiar with the blue bastard). I got it for $20, and it fit perfectly. It ran flawlessly for 2 more years until I sold the car.
It would be interesting to know which year that VW Golf was so that we could get new, of the shelf, Pep Boys/Canadian Tire replacements.
Cheers,
Mike

Mike, I called Murrays just to see what they had. I gave them the Bosch part number that was on the side of the blue case and they came back with a price of $360 and three days to get it.
I was going to try to swap the pump from my auto to my manual and order a new one on Monday from the big three but I didn't like the idea of switching them back after the new one arrived ... not going to sell the auto with a new pump on it.
I was thinking of getting a rebuilt one, but I am lazy. I like to fix something once and get pissed off if it breaks again. I will get a new pump and hopefully it will last a while.

Hey Mark, Ya nut'in worse that the same job twice.
I wish I had that VW info though. It has been a while, but I think I priced the VW pump new at Canadian Tire and it was like $150-175 USD ($190-210 CAD).
Don't forget to change the filter, and BTW to stop the flow of gas from the tank line while swapping out pumps, I jammed an AA battery in the line, and it plugged it perfectly.
From 928 INTL:
Item Number : 928 608 104 01 Unit Price: $249.00
Cheers,
Mike

I'll jump in here, as I had an incident with my f-pump change;
I wouldn't suggest swapping f-pumps indiscriminately! when I had to do mine, even using new copper crush washers, the "banjo" fitting end of the hard line between the f-pump and filter, that attaches the line to the outlet of the f-pump got slightly crushed, over the area where the line comes through the "banjo", thus deforming the flat sealing area, and causing the line to leak; the more I tried to crush the washers "flat", the more leakage there was.
As the Frenzy was just about to start, and I had an eight hour drive to get there, I had a new line and crush washers overnighted to me. This fixed the leak, but other problems occurred, as related elsewhere, and I missed the Frenzy, dagnabbit!

Nice get-together, today, folks! Lots of thanks to Robert for opening up the home and hosting, and a big thanks to Mother Nature for pushing the storm through early and leaving us with a beautiful afternoon!
It was good to meet everyone, though I wish I could have stayed on longer. Can't wait to see some pixs; there were, what, about 13 cars?
Someone mentioned that the 928 is probably the best deal going for a car of this caliber, but I'd like to add that the good people of the 928 community are what really make ownership such a blast!
Looking forward to seeing everyone soon,
Chaad

So how many cars showed up?
Lools like a nice place for a get-together. Seein' all that greenery reminds me of back home in Canada - and the mosquitos.

Spirited is the word, yes. I am going to purchase a V1 before the next one...don't like flying blind...
The cross pipe and chips are on my list so that my car will be even more "spirited"...
