I've been casually shopping the sunbrella fabric market, and the only way to get a decent price on the stuff is in quantities. Buying a couple yards of 54" fabric is expensive, especially when I know it will take me a few tries to get one that's acceptable. A whole piece, with hardware and everything from 928 Int'l starts to look like a bargain. If I ran a sewing machine regularly it would be different. I may still do a one-off in vinyl though. There's a lot of forgiveness in vinyl, and I can use glue to hold it all together. I like glue...sniff-sniff.
You guys should contact Rob Budd and ask him about leather, vinyl, or alcantara options. You may find it's less expensive than you think!
Also if you go alcantara - the most expensive - you'll have the least reflections in your rear window. Shiny materials like leather or vinyl will reflect like crazy (another reason we did not pursue this). Sunbrella also won't reflect.
