Just curious... my cover is starting to tear.

PS: There is a typo in one of the options - it shoudl be up to $300 for a vinyl replacement... Sorry, maybe Randy can edit?

Mine is a bit of a curiosity, especially at last weekend's S4 + dominated event. Every once in a while someone with a later car comes along and looks at mine and shakes their head.... This weekend it was Bill. It kind of reminds me of the old MG (or Tiumph, etc) roadsters that had a cover that snapped over the cockpit when you had the top down...

Yes, the luggage and tool covers were quite different on the earlier cars. Why don't you take this opportunity to post a picture for educational purposes?

Sure, what the heck. OK, trying to dig up a pic of the rear snaps where it attaches, I found one... but it's pre-leatherique and pre-carpet dye... Also the tool cover is loose in this pic. But there are 4 snaps, two on the tool cover and two at the corners of the base of the hatch opening:

There is a metal strip along the front edge near the snaps that latch onto small pins on the underside of the seats. Forward of that is a hinged flap with stiff fiberboard that flops downward and blocks the space between the seats -- the area occupied by the net in the following pic:

And here's what it looks like installed:

Hopefully others will post pics of the various covers and whether they love them or hate them(and why).

So what's up Nicole.... do you have some kind of group buy up your sleeve? Did a friend find a garage full of luggage covers in Stuttgart? Did you get a fabulous deal on a new sewing machine?

Hi Dave: Is your cover vinyl or leather?

I think a vinyl material is the best idea in this case as I would have my doubts about the durability of a leather piece the size it would be. Those of us with leather quarters that have warped know this problem well. The vinyl quarters don't warp, and we have seen what the sun eventually does to the fabric material! I think this is a great idea Nicole, I hope there is enough interest here to make it worth your while. I'm definitely interested.

After seeing sharkskins set up I'm confused. How many versions are there. I bought a cloth one 2 years ago that attaches to the latch & rear quarter. When you lift the hatch the cover opens too.
It also has some flaps & snaps in the front that I've never figured out.

Nicole are looking to coordinate a group buy? I may still have the vendors name

Mine is cloth and attaches to the hatch.

It has two holes in it, but I'll probably have my handy GF create a new one when she can find the time . How about a cloth option, Nicole? I personally wouldn't want neither vinyl nor leather.

Both of mine [ '80 & '88] are cloth as well, and are orriginal Porsche items: they each have cords and fittings that twist lock into the hatch and rear quarters - so the covered portion of the hatch area ('trunk') is exposed when the hatch is opened.
Cloth may be a better choice - for it rolls up neatly around the center rod and tucks behind the rear seat backs - for 99.9% of its useful life.
The front half of the cover has a zipper down the center, like a tonneau cover of my ex Austin Healey - yet to use that 'feature'

I have an aftermarket cloth one. Looks and works fine.
Would like to see an aftermarket one made from the same factory material that would last.
Still have the old one in storage.

My original fabric one is in good condition, except for the mouse size hole eaten in one corner.

Mice in my car, can you imagine?

I had one in another car a long time ago ('84 Chrysler Laser turbo...my first car). It was more of a PITA to me, but that could be because it was a Chrysler and their engineering isn't that wonderful.

I don't know if I would be that interested in a cover, but I do like the net Dave has between the seats. That looks like a great feature to have. Sure would help keep the rear console nice without everything sliding all over it.

My 82 had a all leather interior and a all leather luggage cover, the first I had ever seen. All my other 928's including my 93 have a cloth cover.

Don't have one, but wouldn't mind having one. Correct me if I'm wrong (which is a distinct possibility) but was this an option that had to have other hooks and snaps (not standard equipment) in order to attach the cover?

Please post if Sharkskin's questions end up being reality. Thanks.

David
