Default Stack Jacks Jack Stands

Anyone seen these jack stands before? They are actually to stabilize trailers, but the rating is quite strong (says 6000lbs per stand). I'm considering using these to hold up my car. the base is the same size as some of the 2 ton stands i saw at the store. They are aluminum and feal really weak though. They actually have the round tops so all you need is maybe a block of wood or puck and no other mods. Any opinions? They can be purchased at your local wally world for around $40 a set of four.

Read the last line on the bottom of the box! "For stabilizing only-not for lifting". I don't think trailer stabilizers are intended to carry the full weight of it, that's what the trailer axles do. But hey, I stayed at a Motel 6 last nite!

You can probably get real 3-ton jack stands for about that price at Wallyworld.

sounds like alot of negatives. i thought some of those things too. i thought the not for lifting meant to not turn the shaft and use it as a jack. the issue with every other jack stands are the v shaped top. it's kind of hard to get that on the round jack point without modding it. if it seems to dangerous, i'll probably just return them.

Those are too dangerous. The ratio of height to base width is much too narrow, even if the material were up to the task. That would be much too prone to tipping for my blood. Here is one solution for the vee-shape, if all of your lift points are undamaged: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/172013-jack-stands-mounting-pad-adapters-winter-projects.html

I know Chuck Z also has a really nice set of jack stands that are tall with a wide base(pic below)... maybe he'll jump in and tell us where he got them...

Like Dave said, get a wide base. Almost any stands will hold a shark up, but the smaller ones will tip easily.

Wally World sells the 6 ton SUV stands I got for about $30/pair. They are wide base like the ones pictured above so they're tough to tip. Once the shark is on them, they don't budge. They also have a max height of about 23" so you only have to take them up about 2/3 of their max height to fit under the shark nicely on a creeper.

I've had them for so long and used them on so many different cars, I can't remember where I got them. They are very stout and I have never thought twice about crawling under the car while its sitting on them. Now that I have a lift, I will probably use the jack stands less.

are you just placing a regular block of wood over the "v" in the jack stand?

In the 6 ton from Wally World the square jacking point fits perfectly between the ends. I put a piece of rubber (one of those round, kitchen jar lid removal things) on the top of the jack stand to keep from scratching the paint off of the jacking point.

Whatever "ton" you get, just pick the ones with the biggest base you can find. Check the places like Sam's Club too.
