Cam gears and timing belt installed!
I got the new cam gears and timing belt installed today. I photographed and documented the process here....(scroll all the way down to the menu item called "Setting Basic Timing Of The Cams).

Brilliant write up, with great pics.
Personnally I found that the cam clamps, Special Tools 9226, are not neccessary, just clamp the bearing caps gradually making sure you are aware of where the forces from the valve springs are acting.
However, I really do recommend using the cam shaft seal tools, special tools 9233 and 9234, as you have done, I did mine without and it was horrible. I have been expecting oil leaks to start at any moment, though amazingly nearly 18,000 later and no sign as yet.

Thanks guys. I'll be dialing in the precise valve timing probably tonight.
Andrew: I should be ready to drop it in by the end of the week. I'm waiting for a new oil pan gasket to arrive (since I pulled the pan back off to chase a missing washer).

I agree with you 100%. I did the same way with my '85 3 years ago.
Big Dave,
Excellent write up. Gives me falshbacks from 3 years ago, except I did the same thing with the engine in the car.

I'm happy to report that precise valve timing has now been set. I'll get a page up detailing the procedure soon.
