Folding spoiler question

Curious?
Is this folding wing manually-activated or speed-activated? I don't have one and am not looking to put one on, just trying to gain "the knowledge".
Thanks.

It's a manual deal. The original intent was to make it easier to clean underneath it and also, according to Motor Trend I think it was, not to hang up when going through an automatic car wash. I'll never forget their statement in the write up, "although only a Phillistine would take a 928 through an automatic car wash." Outstanding!!

My '87 VIN 1121 is a folder rear wing. If you don't push down after washing the car it latches at 70 mph with a very loud clunk. It scared the crap out of me the first time it happened! I'll bet that was the reason why they discontinued it, too many scared customers.

Another MY 87 change was the EZK connector (see photo). Early cars have a different style clip that holds the connector to the module case. Do all of you that have the folding rear wing have the old style EZK connector?
FYI, if you cannot locate the early style EZK, the later model EZK will interface to the early model connector cable. It won't latch, but it will connect.

Check out the avatar. I wish I knew how to do an mpeg version showing it opening and closing.
This one is a retrofit, my car is an '88.

There seems to be a correlation between there being a two screw cover plate on the top right(?) (when standing in front of the car looking down at the pan) of the oil pan on the squirter block motors. Just another way to see if your engine has them. You can't know for sure unless you look down the bare cylinder and see the orifice in the block casting.

Okay....Squirter? New one on me. Also, what is ROW? Everytime I think I have all the terms and acronyms down pat, I get humbled again. Help me out here guys. Additionally, is it being a "squirter" really going to make it more valuable? This is the one that I have for sale.

What was the purpose of having the wing foldable? Oh, let me guess-- cleaning the window area under it?
Oh, I missed where this had already been mentioned it. Sorry.

Perhaps one of the issues with the folding wing was it uses two hinges 928 512 111 02 and 112 02 last price I show was $428 EACH. Plus I have wondered what happens if you spin the car at speed does it act like a NASCAR roof air brake/spoiler ? just before it shears off ?

You know Jim, I can do a WHOLE lot of washing under that wing just the way it is without folding it up at those hinge prices! Might just fold her up, snap a couple of pics for posterity and back down never to be moved again.

The left hand button flips the rear of the spoiler up to expose a solid rocket booster that would propel the car to 200+MPH for a period of 10 seconds. There are only 9 available so you must use them sparingly during a race and make sure it's in the back field so the judges don't see you using them.
If the boosters don't give you enough of a lead or the track is too short to use a 10 second boost then you use the right hand button. Press it and the spoiler flips up again and fires an invisible dart into the front, driver's side tire. An infrared sensor combined with laser technology aims the dart precisely as not to injure a spectator. This feature is also useful on LA highways when the guy behind you gets ticked off and sticks his pistol out the window.
The "flip up" spoiler was discontinued due to profitability, or lack thereof. You see, the only place to store the 9 solid boosters and 28 invisible darts was the spare tire area. Since you could not have a spare, they had to put a top on the area that matched the rest of the floor so it was not noticable and was strong enough to keep you from slamming things on top of the rocket boosters. To keep you from having any problems on the road, they put everlasting self-inflating ZZ-Top rated tires so you never had to worry about a flat. Since it was super-secret and the cost could not be passed into the sales price it was not profitable so Porsche dropped it after the '87 model.
Now don't you wish you had one?

ROW = rest of world. USA+CND have one VIN sequence and Euro's+all others other. Some (all?) years Japan has its own too.
Part like S4 rear wing can get damaged and thus might have been changed even before delivery. So giving absolute VIN limit is impossible unless factory provides it.
Adam, take lets say half dozen pictures where wing is on different positions along the movement range. One pic at each end and rest in evenly divided spacings all taken from same vantage point one after other. Maybe using thin string or such to pull wing up so it would not show in pics. After you have those it's easy to make moving gif file like in PorKen's avatar. Send them in email and I'll do it.
