Big Dave,

The we is we, and why does it matter?

Why does one need to know?

If we ever have something to contribute to Reenlist we can. Who cares who we are, as long as the info given on Rennlist is correct, do we agree?

It doesn't matter. I was just curious. You've been referring to yourself in the plural lately.

You are incorrect about your statement.

It's always better to have all the correct info prior to making statements. But it doesn't really matter I guess.

I guess it's good for John to have so many good friends looking out for him on here. I'll let him know that your looking out for him.

Have a good day

I'm confused. Again, it doesn't matter. I was just curious.

This is great Dave.

Since we never met, I have the pleasure to enjoy your caring nature.

WOW! It's awesome to find such a great friend that will go to such lengths to post things that might initiate humor. Please keep going, the board needs more humor. Not sure if you found any other suspect grammar on Rennlist, from other poster's. But, please keep us posted of any other grammatical mistakes of all posters. We would hate to be your only good friend.

We are in tears here and abroad. There seems to be people here and in other countries that are laughing with us.

I told John your looking out for him and you are so concerned about our grammar.

John did get a good chuckle out of this. You made his day being so concerned about him.

He said Hello, and please enjoy your day.

Please keep posting your pics and info about your proper Timing Belt and upper engine rebuild. This will help out others on the board.

John, all I asked was a simple question. Apparently more than one person is using your Rennlist account. Easy enough to say without getting defensive. If the account is not in use by someone other than you, John, well, I'm at a loss for words. Your reaction is puzzling, if not uncalled for.

This thread has certainly gone off into a bizarre direction.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions about removing the oil separator. Randy is going to try to get it off and may even take a stab at fabricating a new one in his shop for the fun of it. Either way, I now have a good idea about how to remove the old one, and it's clear a new one isn't as expensive as I first thought.

Hi Dave did you ever get to the bottom of the timing belt failure? I mean there can be many causes, failed pump, was yours rebuilt? Also there is two types of timing belt available, the Conti (the cheap one) how good is this belt? I don't know and Porsche original, which one were you running? Obviously the mechanic on the job can play a part in a failure too.

Porsche has recently increased prices here in Australia, they wanted to increase the price in a simple way, so they just doubled them. People are talking about, rebuilt pumps and Conti belts here which were never used here before because the price was reasonable @ about $250 USD for a genuine pump and $75 USD for genuine belt.

Cheers Greg

Greg:

I may never know the primary cause, but I still suspect the tensioner arm bolt. Nothing else I've found would cause the belt to track off-center and erode against the covers. The pump appears to still be usable, but I replaced it anyway.

The tensioner arm bolt is the step bolt isn't it? It is a while since I have done one of these (cam belt change) and since I can't remember what I had for breakfast you'll forgive me in not being sure. What I do remember is that you should always change this bolt, according to Porsche, yes I know you shouldn't have to change bolts ever but it is a crap design, did you change the step bolt? I note the S4 did away with this design.

Cheers Greg
