Talking *UPDATED WITH PIC AND MOVIE!* Waking the dead...

Hey guys, this Saturday bright and early I'm not only gonna be enjoying the fact that I no longer work Saturdays because of my new job, but to celebrate it by cutting the intermediate mufflers off the S4 and installing a 2 1/4" piece of straight pipe in between. For the passenger side I'm going to have the piping bent slightly outward and away from the ATF reservoir to make it easier to add fluid to the reservoir.

I'm anticipating some more sound on this car after this. I also have video capabilities so you can all hear what it will sound like q

EDIT!!!! PIX ON PAGE 3 AND MOVIE!!!

You'll never view a tunnel or underpass the same way- trust me!

Andy, you may want to go for a ride in mine before you proceed. A system like that really "booms" at low rpm's. around town, and has a tendency to set off car alarms... ask me how I know! Mine's 3" pipe from the cats, to a pair of resonators where the intermediate mufflers used to be, followed by a pair of flowmaster mufflers. Stevestik can attest to the sound as he heard my car approaching his house long before he saw it. This can get to be very annoying, and I do have a lady friend that loves the car, but is quite unimpressed with the exhaust system. Keep that in mind. I will be making changes to mine... If nothing else, hold onto the intermediates just in case!

I will say this about mine, it does sound tremendous on the freeway under hard acceleration, and tunnels & overpasses do inspire chills! You will get noticed.

What's the whole plan for the exhaust system?

Stock headers, cats? Then straight pipes? Then stock mufflers? RMB?

If you still have the stock muffler, install an RMB, and leave the mid-resonators...
It will save you more weight, and will sound better.

Or... If you want to remove all that stuff, I'd suggest adding a flowmaster.

I do have an RMB, but I'm going to try without intermediates for a while. I hear that there's resonance which is fine. We also don't drive the car much to really be noticed but just around the neighborhood, or I'll take it to school, mom and dad for work use. About 3 times out of the week it's driven, the rest of its time it's just rubbed down with a diaper

See my post above, re: my system... without resonators I have a feeling that setup will be very annoying, just my $.02

I think if the Flowmaster would be considered annoying is because of the lack of any insulation. I love the sound of the Flowmaster. If the price is right this Saturday (a couple bucks more or about $250) I'll pitch in for the 3" in dual 2.5" out 40 series muffler and have the 928 intl RMB tips welded to the muffler (it already has the mounts on the tips welded so there's already a mounting point for the Flowmaster.

just outta curiousity has anyone ever bypassed the intermediate mufflers and had an RMB on the car (basically the car has no mufflers, just the catalytic converter) or am I gonna be the first?

Yes, I did, for a brief time, on the 86.5 I used to have. It sounded like a Trans Am race car and was VERY LOUD...

Bill, thats exactly the sound I'm looking for. unless you're on it, I guess the local PD probably won't be P-offed.

Also, how would you compare the sound with what you have right now on this S4?

Tell ya what Andy, go out to your garage, loosen the clamps holding the intermediate pipes to the cats, pull off the pipes, start it up & then report back on how it sounds to you . The resonators (hollow) and Flowmasters on my S4 quiet it down considerably, but like I said, it can be a bit much still at lower revs. You really need to take a ride in my car to see what I mean. Cats with open pipes will attract the local constabulatory and the ire of the Eastlake HOA

HOA? Ok Bill, I'm convinced I should ride with you. Next time I see you and Steve, I'll come along. I'll probably also have no intermediates at that time too I am a little anxious to be a loudmouth
