I have the 2-1/2" test pipes, the original resonators and an RMB on the back and it sounds mean. Although it does give the sound of a American V8 cool guy. Anyway, the original resonators are just straight pipes anyway, eplacing them won't change anything. As Jim Bailey, that's what he told me last year anyway. 4k RPMs and the sound is incredible.

Despite it being more or less a resonator, the intermediate muffler has more packing on it then the resonator I'm looking at. The Dynomax is just a ceramic core so I would think it would be louder than the factory intermediate mufflers.

I would ask Jim Bailey first. He would know more than me. He basically told me that the resonators are just straight through pipes that are perforated inside.

Jim are you out there? Your expertise are needed I know already from what you had said before that the intermediates are resonators, but if I get no change in sound resulting from a swap in Dynomax Magnum muffler/resonator then I'm just cutting the whole works off and leaving a straight mild steel pipe in between there

sorry to be a post ***** but just wanna say I appologize if I'm really beating this intermediate muffler topic to death. I just want to be sure I'll be satisfied with the sound I get if I change the interemediates out with a different resonator.

So you don't think this is loud enough for you?

Andy, when you get to the shop Saturday morning, have them drop the intermediate pipes from the cats and start it up. See how you like it and go from there. The guys in the shop will probably love it!

I'm aiming for that dB amount, but dont' want to convert to a 3" and collect after the cats since I'd like to retain a dual exhaust. The 16 valve 928s are naturally louder when compared with the 32 valve.

I have an X-pipe and by-passed resonators. I don't think that most people would have this combination. It's just right for me because their is no resonance but it still rips when I floor it. The best part is that it doesn't sound like a 20-year old american POS with a 350. I guess the main thing that I learned from it is how good the rear muffler is at reducing noise(or how restrictive it is??)..

Are there any numbers showing how many ponies the resonators restrict??

I don't think there is any restriction since it's a resonator and straight through. I also want to know is what is used as insulation in the factory resonator boxes on the car. Is it steel wool packing? If so and if I use these Dynomax Magnums (which have ceramic core) I have no doubts the car will be noticeably louder than the factory boxes.

ok guys she's all finished!!!! No more intermediates. BTW guys, to clarify something too. Yes the intermediates are straight through like Jim baily said. There's also a 120 degree bend in it so that the packing or insulation can dampen the sound. Switching over to the dynomax magnum got rid of the bend and expanded the piping to 2.5" until reduced to comply with factory piping. The sound result is VERY deep with some noticeable resonance when on the throttle. Yes it does drown at around 2300 rpm, but I personally love droning. These Magnums also drone less than the Flowmaster 40 series muffler on my dad's 2001 Silverado. Anyways check out the movie and pix, hope you like! I know I do...

Here's the movie:
