need help: in process of installing keyless entry (long)
(skip down to THE PROBLEM if you don't feel like reading)
I've had this nagging issue where my driver's side door lock doesn't really work. I have to unlock the car from the passenger side door which is very annoying at times and sort of comes with embarrassment. "Oh look, its a broken PORSCHE".
I usually park my car in such a way where the pssgr door will be facing the direction I am walking from. This way, I can stealthly walk up to the passenger door, unlock it fast, then slip over to the other side of the car and get in. Sometimes, I have my girlfriend with me.. so I can play it off as opening the door for her (which I would actually do anyways). Other times, if i'm coming out of a store, i'll open the pssgr side door and put whatever I bought in the passenger seat.
ANYWAYS... I finally decided to just get keyless entry. During the decision-making process, I kind of went overboard and ended up with Viper's top-of-the-line 2-way LCD responder system. I actually scored this pricey unit for $230 shipped inc. tax from hookedontronics.com (EXCELLENT online retailer btw). I saw prices on ebay in the 250-300 range and I think they retail from viper in the $400+ range.
Like everything else, I took it out of the box, began to look it over and figure out how it works, then take it down to the car for some test-fitting. Test-fitting turns into "lets give it power and see if it works", and now i'm at the point where i'm determined to get the keyless entry part of it working tonight. I've already got the antenna mounted in the sunroof-motor area, and i've fed power to the unit. I can lock and unlock, but the wires aren't connected to anything.
THE PROBLEM: I see that when I lock and unlock my car from the passenger-side door, all of the locks work. When I am inside the car, the little lock button above my radio only works when the car is on. I got to the central-locking box (to the left of my stereo), and find that applying 12v to the green wire is the same as pushing that button... but of course only works when the car is on. So... how do I make the doors lock/unlock with the viper system when the car is off?
Thanks in advance!

On the viper unit, I have a blue wire and a green wire to pulse the locks. One wire pulses 12v when you push lock, the other pulses 12v when you push unlock.
I have the light, antenna, and power hooked in... so I can hear the relays clicking when I press buttons. Apparently, there is a way for me to program a 3.5-second pulse as opposed to the standard 0.8v pulse. Not sure if that would help any.

Michael;
I have been planning a remote lock control install for some time and have been following posted threads on same for some time., While I have not gone through this yet, I think you will find most of the info you need in this post: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-forum/141577-remote-door-locks.html
Essentially what you need to do is pull some of the contacts on the central lock control to ground (in addition to providing power to the remote locking control box).
The above post covers most of the job in great detail, just need to verify the wiring details with your MY. I really link this approach, as it leaves everything "factory" wrt the alarm and lock operation...plus you need not even think about going inside the doors!
Sorry that I cannot help from experience, but I'm sure some of the listers on that thread would be happy to handle specific questions.
Hoep this helps,

Ok, here's what i'm up against:
If I sent a 12v signal to the top/right pin (i think its black w/ a stripe), it'll trip a relay in the fuse panel. Once this relay is tripped, I have use of the lock/unlock button - and I can use the lock button on the viper to lock and unlock the doors. The pin that actuates the door locks is the upper-left one (green).

Mine's on the Passenger's side. I tapped into the lock/unlock wires from the lock switch. I think it usues a negative pulse, and I configured the keyless entry for a longer pulse. Maybe 2 seconds? Works great. The only thing I'd do differently is get a louder horn for the chirp. I _hate_ chirping the main car horn so I put in a small piezo buzzer, but I cannot hear it unless I am right next to the car. A bigger buzzer would work better.
Adding keyless IMO is a smart thing to do, those zinc locks are brittle and crappy. As for an alarm, that's up to you. A disabler is quite easy to wire in also.
-Joel.

Yeah, I tapped into the wire bundle comes from the controller that is behind the radio, passenger side. Just pull the side panel and there it is. Works flawlessly.

Let us know what you work out. I'm pouring over the wiring diagrams right now but not having much luck figuring things our. the 90 vs the 85 systems are different enough to give you fits!

Ok, Ed was right! I kept trying to send the lock/unlock wires a 12v signal. They need to be grounded to actuate the locks.
You can pretty much follow Tony's guide @ http://members.rennlist.com/v1uhoh/.
There is a yellow wire, and another wire next to it (to the right in my picture).
