Default Sloppy Tie Rod Ball Joint

My Fikse FM10's came yesterday! Great big thanks to the 928 Specialists team. Anyhow, as i installed the wheels on the car i noticed some play in the steering axis on the front passenger side. I didn't inspect too closely but i am guessing the ball joint at the rack side of the tie rod is going bad. My question is... Should i replace both tie rod assemblies or just the bad ball joint? Also, why can't i post the pics of these nice wheels? I keep gettting a message that tells me something like, " cannot post from a foriegn host"

Don't know why you cannot post, but one thing to check is to see if the play is in the tie rod end (ball joint) or the rack. If you're sure it's the TR end, then it's a simple R&R If it's the rack... well I won't go there yet.

I would highly suggest you use a setup like i used to verify alignment. I took an old rotor and glued a laser level to the inside face, then mounted it backwards so the laser level faces out. I made 2 refernce marks - one on the wall level to the gound, and one 90 degrees down on the gound. I made little dots to reference the status quo. Then you can do the R&R. After the new one is mounted and torqued, use the laser level to adjust the tie rod to give you back the same alignment specs. Ba Da Bing, Ba Da Boom.

Let us know if you have other questions.

Default Fikse FM10's and loose tie rod

I changed my oil yesterday and pulled back both tie rod boots, the passenger side tie rod is for sure getting sloppy at the ball joint on the rack end. I guess i will add Two tie rod assemblies to my next parts order. In addition to motor mounts, new Bilstein/ Eibach setup, and my second timing belt job all planned for this spring, I would like to also rebuild the Torque tube. I have been studying the shop manuals on the TT replacement but could someone point me in the direction of a good step-by-step torque tube replacement wrte-up to included bearing information? Thank You for any help.

Love your new wheels. I want to get a set like those!

I prefer the narrow spoke wheels better than the thick 7 spoke wheels. In ancient times I had a red MGB with chrome wire spoke wheels that were so cool looking.
