I will never do this again but I had a close friend who's well over 6' sit in the backseat at well over 150mph once as we chased down a superbike. I think he had a perma-smile. But again, I realise now how stupid that was.

Your friend is nutso for letting this happen... Anywy, it's the tires that limit real speed.. not engine & chassis... There is enough power to make the 928 reach warp speed.. Don't know which tires will allow this though... Maybe Conti V-MAX, but they are only in 19 & 20 inch, and are rated to 360Km/h

hmm, perhaps. I had a few guys in the back under 6 ft. around 5-8, 5-10, specifically. Can't say that they seemed particularly happy, but for one it was his first ride in a Porsche ever, and I had already let him drive, so he didn't complain, either.

Not true - the Ferrari 456 is actually the fastest production vehicle 185mph, 4 seater in the world and has been for 10 years.

But at least two DEVEK strokers have hit over 198 mph in open road practice .. one with th e AC on!

Those Gale Banks engines have been around a while now, I can remember when they cracked 200 mph in the early eighties with one of those in it. For them still to be around says something in it's self.

Now to those high horsepower Jap motors, I have two feelings on them, I have known and it is no big secret as to why dont any Jap cars hold the Nurburgring records or be right up there? They tend to blow up or run out of brakes. The head Porsche mechanic was telling me that one of their wealthy customers used to mod all the different jap cars, Evos, supras Skylines. When he would go to the track they would always come back on the trailer.

He got sick of this and bought a GT3, that never comes home on the trailer, this guy also had a BMW CSL, it couldn't do more than 3 laps, without losing it's brakes. Needed to be upgraded to brembos, $8k AUD for that thanks, so he sold it and is now happy with the GT3, also the M3 used to get terrorized by boxters. So there are cars for showing off and cars that just get the job done.

As to the Lexus motor, done the right way nobody seems to think reliabilty will be a problem. I think if it was blown, the weight advantage is starting to get lost. Also they told me the weight of the Cayenne engines, N/A engine is 227 kg and the turbo 253 kgs. They are working on a lighter weight engine right now. They will also probably drop the cast iron inserts in the lower half of the cradle that is currently used in the Cayenne and BMW M5. They have found another material.

Yes, OK it isn't the fastest anymore. It used to be. Either way I must have been on crack that day, there are BMW's that exceed 928 speed and I know from experience they are very comfortable passenger cars. Same with some AMG Mercedes and countless others these days. Statement retracted.

Aren't all the BMW and MB sedans limited to 155? We all know they *could* go faster, but technically speaking, the 928 probably still has them beat.

It is possible to order a BMW M model and the AMG cars without the limiter. FYI the fastest 4-door in the world (Guiness book of records) is a Brabus version of the E-Class at 330 km/h (limited because the tires can't take more) and the fastest station wagon is the same car as a station wagon limited to 320 km/h. These cars had a 580 hp version of the naturally aspirated Mercedes V12. This was in 1999 or so and the record has probably been broken since then. I know that the AMG SL65 did a whooping 334 km/h on the Nardo Oval earlier this year.
