You guys ... Lagavullin (Paul?) makes these statements sometimes, I'm not sure why ... but it used to pi$$ me off royally too. Then I realised the man loves his Porsche 928 too, he just has a way of talking it down.

I think the 928 is a better car than the Vettes prior to the latest 2 iterations. I think it's no worse a car than any other car out there today. And I think the 928 is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above all others in some areas, like versatility and boostability and such. It is still one of the very fastest, most powerful, and most beautiful vehicles ever made by human hands.

Lagavullin loves his 928, otherwise he wouldn't be owning and driving and supercharging it. And I don't know him personally, I just have had these arguments with him in the past. Lagavullin, I know you know, posting words like "piece of ****" will upset your 928 brothers. Come on man

 

I ran 456 rwhp for over 60K miles, managed a dozen or more multi minute runs over 200 mph, drove it accross the country and back ... all on pump gas. .. to me, it was what the 928 was meant to do all along. That is about 550ish chp.

When Louis finishes the intake and other tweaks to the engine I built, he will have approximatley 500 rwhp that will run all day long, be capable of carrying 4 folks comfortably at speeds in excess of 200 mph with the ac on (not that he would), accelerate as fast as traction allows, and pretty much, be an ideal example of what a 928 is capable of with 100K miles total reliablity.

As Lag knows, I don't totally agree with him on that statement. We have some engines going together right now that will be capable of producing close to 1000 CHP and these will be open deck design. There are some cylinder supports as I have shown in the past but for the most part they will be open deck. Now, with that said, the next version currently on the drawing table will have cylinder supports that will get tied into the block. This will not be a closed deck but you could argue that it will perform like one.

Get that Z06 out Lag, I haven't had lunch yet today.

BTW, I'm not about to get any further into the debate on this topic so don't ask.

Obviously, the more power you want to make, the more you will need to strengthen the block, the cylinders, the pistons, rods, etc. If you do all these mods to the engine, it should be capable of handling a lot of power. The question is how much power can it handle without major engine mods. And so far, it seems like a lot of people are boosting to 400-500rwhp, with no ill effects. If you want to compete with the big boys in the 1000hp club, you had better be prepared to drop some cash into the engine...

Another example of Murphy's Law ? I do admire Tim's commitment (not suggesting that he be committed ) that rather than listening to all the doubting Thomas's he just forges ahead finding problems finding solutions and adding to the collective knowledge of what will work and what will not based on actual EXPERIENCE not theory or conjecture. While Andy Keel has chosen a different path the willingness of both to openly share their experiences is a refreshing attitude about 928 Performance. The end result the number of hotrodded 928s has exploded (perhaps a poor choice of words in this context ) . The latest quest to build a 1,000 hp 928 engine ....more power to you !!!
