Close Jim....

It was a Ford Cobra SVT, 2 CHP cars pulling us over, and it was more along the lines of....

"Race Officer...? Absolutely, on a race track.. Streets are not for racing.." "In any case, I would not call a drive near that 'other' car that was pulled over a race.." I would have been going much faster, and again, I do not race on the public roads...

The CHP smiled and said "ok, hold on, I'll be right back" That's when the towtruck appeared for the Cobra, and I was told to be sure and answer my ticket, and also have a nice Sunday... The ticket was written for "max speed", over 100mph .... and the VC I think was 22948...

My barrister negotiated in my absence... As I still have a driver's license, I have a good opinion of my barrister... No jail time, or no visits to the judge.... They just look at me and throw a few books.... not pretty..

Actually, in CA I have been lucky.... Last stop before that was also for the "max speed or over 100mph" I got it reduced to 1 point, and paid a fine, the judge was quite friendly considering he could have been worse. That was in a certain Mercedes Automobile..

When I was younger, and in college, I was once carted off in a NY State Trooper's car to "see the judge" while operating a certain BMW automobile..... I was younger then, but have learned....
No Further Comment...!

Yep, 250 mph it is. Marc and I was discussing the possibilities last year and after talking to Marc about it I am convinced that it is doable.

Randy just took the words out of my mouth. What stretch of freeway??? Hmmmmmm..........???? Not that I would ever do something like that of course. But these cars are designed, and tested, to do exactly what you were doing all day every day. What road?? PM would be more discreet and definitely more adviseable.

I agree Richard, that in these medieval times, no further comment is a good approach. In case that ever happens again, don't forget to call Dr. Ron first.

At 5000 ft, it takes less than 2 miles to pop 200 mph, a 5 miles tretch of road would easily allow a 230mph plus pass and hard brake down to 120 or so. Yup, after that run, 120mph would feel like you could get out and walk faster ...

.....And if you get caught, I do not know how, then you need more than Dr. Ron, you need Scotty ... to beam you the F --K out of there!

Forget Scotty, you just need an inflight refueler. What cop in his right mind is going to stop-strip a 200+MPH car, and what cop car or helo could keep up? None that I know of.

In some areas, they (bears) use Helos, and radios, and the radios cannot be outrun, along with the new digital cameras to get you and your plate..

I second the particle beam transmitter...

At 200 mph, it will really hurt explaining to the bears... Say smokey, the gas pedal really got stuck, and I tried like hell to dislodge it... Um, ok..?

A friend of mine and Ketchmi's (Quinn) drove back from Devek Days a couple years ago, and had an interesting ride...

He has an '87 auto just like mine, with a few minor mods (exhaust, rrfpr, etc.), and was traveling downhill, full throttle, with the wind behind him.

He said that his mirrors slammed back at one point, he pegged the speedo, and was scared out of his mind...

He didn't know how fast it was, but his radar detector has a GPS chip in it that can record top speed, and it read.... 195mph?!!?

True, possibly, but regardless, his speedo did peg, so it must have been pretty close to that anyway!
Those are all the details I know, don't know what hill, how fast the wind was, but still, that would be some ride!

Not to change the subject, but this brings up a good question. Considering the 928, it is better/safer to have 17" vs 18" wheels for high speed? Obviously I am talking about tire side wall height. Which would be better or does it make a difference? What factors are at play here?

Quinn was running 16" Kumho's with a bad front end alignment. He said the mirrors "automatically retracted" at around 170mph. Can you imagine a 6'7" guy jumping in the driver's seat at that time? E-ticket ride for sure! I think I still have a pic of his GPS somewhere, if not I'm sure he does. 195mph

Those who remember 911s when they had hand throttles next to the shifter on the floor which were used until the engine warmed up, will know this game. Fly past a bear flat out and if he pulls out after you, immediately pull off the road, pull up the hand throttle and jump out. Run back to the back of the car and scream in despair while jerking violently at various linkages in the engine until he walks up. Then pull the throttle linkage and the engine drops down to normal. Say your throttle stuck.

Hey, it COULD happen, right???

Keith,

It depends on the tire construction, and load rating.. The new Conti V Max tires are only available in 19 inch, and have a rating to 360 Km/H... If you can find MXX II, I think they were 17 inch, and rated full load to 199+mph...

Sidewall height has a part to play, but heat dissipation is a large part along with strength..

HTH,

Yup, so fa the record holds ... beat a hyped, Ruf supported BTR also! Some SC guys are praying to the gods of speed to break our recor. Good luck to all!

1100chp is within reach of a TT setup, pretty high boost for a 5.0L, but within reason for a 6-6.5L. I figure a proper 6.5L with high boost should come in better than 1400+chp or 1100 to 1200 at the wheels...trannys would not last very long & your best chance would be a custom auto with AMG internals & more! Lingenfelter engineering made a C-5 vette 427 twin turbo (automatic) with a rated 802hp, didn't list a top speed, but it ran in the 9's 1/4! It still had stock driving characteristics!

917/30s hit over 1800HP in testing on a 5.4 liter... then again they were using avgas. (100LL isn't that expensive. )
