I think Heinrich is correct, as the valve is I also believe for the charcoal canister..

There are many vacuum lines under the manifold that could be brittle and have cracked with age.. I replaced a bunch of them, and my car thanked me for it.. The IAC also has a hose that comes out the driver's side of the intake plenum thay forms a Y fitting to the line from the brake booster.. That may have wiggled loose.. Check the 4 way and 5 way Vacuum Tees for cracks. There could also be a leak on the vacuum line that goes from the flappy controller out to the switchover valve on the front of the engine... If you have one brittle line, chances are many more need replacing...

If you have spark, and fuel, it most likely is a vacuum leak... You should also change the in-tank filter if you have not already done so.. Mine was crudded over when I changed it recently..... Every little bit helps...

HTH, Good Luck,

Mark:

I'll be able to spend some time on Saturday getting into this further, if you have some time then. We can test vacuum and inspect the fittings and hoses as well as look at other possibilities.

heh... not a lot in common between your engine bay & mine. Oil pump casting, maybe the samepan, cross brace, air-filter rubber straps...

OK. Figure 11:00am. Any other locals that want to puzzle over this no-starter and maybe grab some lunch (should have it running by noon ), drop Mark a line.

I sent Mark a PM with my email address, offering help but it went unanswered(and apparently unread). I need to hear something definitive before I hit the sack tonight or I'm going to turn off my alarm and catch up on some Z's tomorrow. What I mean by definitive is this: Mark, it's your place. Tell me it's OK to come by, send me directions, and I'll be there. So you guys are starting @ 11?

Dave:

You'll see us on 45th street near West at 11 am. The car is parked on the street.

In case this wasn't added. German Autoworks in Oakland is an excellent shop. Serviced my 88 for the PO and kept all the records for verification of the work. The owner really knows these cars. Just my 2 cents.
