Ron--

Bill Ball posted in the last year or so that he had a new windshield installed for a couple $hundred or less by somebody like All-Star Glass. I'm pretty much due for a new one just thanks to the SoCal Pits. If you don't find satisfaction with the polishing compound, maybe we need to find a deal locally on a few new pieces of glass. I'm not too desperate right now, but that is on my list of to-do's this year.

Can the polishing kit repair the dreaded abrasion marks made when running the wipers in too dry conditions?

Dr. bob...My problem is with all of my windows. Just enough to be annoying. Dont think I will be replacing any glass unless it gets broken in the future. I know keith has had good luck with inexpensive glass but I had a hell of a time finding one when I needed it. Three days worth of searching and found one with antennae in it for 365.00 installed. I am really hoping this will get rid of them. They are very light and cant be felt.

Be careful trying to remove pitting. Heavy kit cuts the glass and I talked with someone who says it is easy to cause distortion in the glass.

Has anyone used this on a H4 headlight? And on a related note, do those clear film headlight covers work?

Yes, All Star Glass here in the SF Bay Area has 928 windshields in-stock, or did when I had them do mine last time about a year ago, for $280 installed. Now, this was w/o antenna. From others who have tried getting one with an antennna, even availability might be a problem, and $365 sounds good. Perry, why do you need antenna in the glass?

I already have two small star dings in mine, one just above my line of sight. Usually they spread in no time, but these have not.

I have the vinyl protectors on my fogs and H4s. They are quite thick and absorb some stone dings. However, I lost a fog light lens to a rock despite the protector.

Aparently in the UK if your insurance covers damage to glass, stone chips can be repaired for free, no idea whether the situation is similar in the US, and I haven't actually tried it yet myself, but I'm going to!

I didnt need the antennae, it was all I could find. I took it due to availability. He just cut the connector and installed it. I was looking at 3 weeks min. to order from Germany, (dealer said no glass here according to his computer) and was 1250.00 plus install. Insurance company was willing to pay it, just couldnt justify it in my mind.

Oh, that's odd. Others report a hard time finding the antenna glass. I had no trouble getting the non-antenna glass. The installers are a bit clueless, each in their own way. I've had some tell me they could get the original Sigla glass for $400 only to admit 3-4 weeks later thay could not get it except from Porsche for $1000.

Just a word of caution when using the Eastwood polishing kit. If the scratch can't be felt you'll probably be ok with a light polish. If you can feel the scratch you will need to remove too much glass and will cause some distortion.
I had some fine scratches and those came out easy. I had some other scratches that were a little heavier and right in my line of sight on the windshield. As I continued to work on them, the distortion grew greater and greater. Eventually the scratches were completely gone but replaced by a slight but noticeable distortion in the glass. If it's side or rear glass that's probably not a problem but right in the line of sight drove me crazy and I eventually replaced the glass.

I got my kit from eastwood yesterday and decided to try it out. Very disappointed so far. My scratches are very minor (cant feel them) and it takes sooooooo much scrubbing to get them to somewhat go away. My problem is my scratches are all over the windows and I wanted to polish all of the window. Looks like this kit is meant to just concentrate one particular area.
CHUCK, please let me know how the more agressive kit works for you. I might need to move up to it. Besides being an absolute mess, (figure on taping off the whole car) I dont want to labor this hard on all the glass surfaces for what I have to get done.

This is not good news. I was hoping to get by with not having to use the aggressive kit. My stuff came a few days ago but haven't had time to try them out yet. I planned on covering the entire car and I might wait until its back on the ground and I can pull it outside to polish so I don't spatter the walls. I'll post my results when I'm able to do it. Too bad I can't pull it outside now, its 70+ degrees here!

This is on your windshield, right? What kind of glass? I can't remember what my windshield glass is, but I think it's pretty soft, based on how much pitting it has (probably just from sand and such). Maybe your glass is harder.

I do remember having to spend at least 15 minutes (maybe it was even more than half an hour) on the 20 cm or so long scratch that I had. As I recall, it was a deep enough scratch that I could feel it pretty well. It did take lots of buffing, and I think I applied a fair amount of pressure and was using a pretty heavy 3/4" drill. Was careful to not let things get hot or dry, though.

There's no question that this worked for me just great, though. There was a pretty nasty scratch, and it's gone now. You wouldn't even be able to find any trace of it anymore.

BTW, coincidentally, I just happened to update my write-up on the Eastwood Glass Polishing Kit because Eastwood is interested in adapting some of it for use on their website. I'll be a little disappointed myself if it turns out that this doesn't work out for you.

I just tried again on another spot. It seems to work better ( still not thrilled) if you are consentrating on a small area and you use it over and over and over......I have thickened it up and used just enough spray to keep it moist. This seems to work best. I am wondering if I used the more aggressive polish and then followed that up with this finer stuff I have if it might be easier to do the entire glass like I want to do. I will keep experimenting and pass along any hints I might come up with. I also think a bigger pad for larger areas would be a big benefit.
