Stroker vs Supercharger

Old web page for a 6.0 - Mike.....most strokers make ~360 - 400 rwhp, 400+ torque...you should know this by now.
For 10K, I would go for Johns Twin turbo setup any day over any supercharger kit......turbos are hard to beat. Argue all you want, parasitic losses are just parrasitic....
When researching, use BMEP comparasions for reliabilility, ask all the right questions...what boost requires what additional precautions, etc.
Lamos and Garrity are doing a 6.4l sc engine now, Tilos was a 6.0, built a long time ago, and of course, a few factory strokers ... gts are around running.
Good luck in your decision.

Adam, you could add one of Tim's "cheapie" stage 1 SC kits for under $5K and leave the twin turbo car in question in the dust. FWIW, I spent less than your budget and have ~470 rwhp on tap.
Mark, how do you differentiate between "parasitic" losses and the exhaust backpressure required to drive the turbos and compress the charge? What do you think, you get something for nothing with turbos?

that's kind of like saying the white car was built a long time ago.
obviously things get changed and updated over time. for instance, the motor was totally rebuilt from scratch with a new block just before i bought it.

Tom,
No doubt it has been upgraded. I quoted the prevoious owner to lower comp and add a intercooler, plus some other goodies....but he choose a different route. That racer has had three SC iterations so far. And I think the only item still original 6.0 is the DEVEK crank, and maybe the Carrillo rods that we sold Tilo.

i believe those are still in there. intercooler now in as well. working on opening the intake and exhaust some more. if it does break (again) that will be the excuse for lower compression for sure.

Hey Adam C.
Adam B. here.
Hard Costs of a 6.5L stroker short block:
Crank $3K
Rods $1.2K
Used '68 Pistons $400
Coating of Pistons$250
Rings $320
Main Bearings (squirter block) $280
ConRod Bearings $40
Bore/Hone Job $1200
Balancing $750 (estimate)
That's just the building blocks. I'm sure you might find better deals, but that is what I've paid so far. New oil/water pumps, and gaskets will need to be added to the tally. Also bear in mind that I'm radiusing the skirts on the pistons myself. So that cost would have to be added in if you were having the motor built. Also, lots of measuring, disassembly, measuirng, reassembly, measuring, etc.
That's close to $7.5K right there, and a LOT of time. Why do it instead of popping on a super charger? Because I can.
If you wanted the top end stock, you could get into your stroker for close to 10K if you build it yourself. The supercharger kits are definitely the way to go. They take advantage of all the advanced design engineering that already comes in the motor, no re-inventing the wheel. And you end up with the same HP. A little less torque, but hey, it's not a John Deere your building.

Here is the first picture of the Stage 1 Murf928 SuperShark kit. Took me about 6 hours to install the prototype and would estimate 4-6 hours for the typical wrench to install the production kit. The car runs absolutely perfect! The drivability is 100%. You can hear the whistle of the sc when your foot to the floor (sound is awesome) but other than that it is hardly noticeable. You would never know this car had a supercharger on it, it just feels like a very powerful car. This car is an 87 auto, 39500 mi., stock exhaust, all emissions intact. My seat of the pants estimate is about 400rwhp. I will dyno as soon as I can and post the results.
That's 400rwhp for just under $5K.
I'm very pleased with how this turned out. If anyone would like to come and drive this car they are welcome to do so, it is very impressive.
