Default '78-'85 Brake upgrade bargain on eBay

For those of you looking to do the brake upgrade on the earlier cars...

LA Dismantler selling PAIRS of used front Brembo's for $200 on eBay!(They have a BUNCH available). They're also selling rears for $225 a pair - which doesn't make a lot of sense...you'd think the fronts would be much more...

ANYWAY - No affiliation - just thought this was a good price. The brake upgrade I did on my '85 EURO is one of the BEST mods I've done. I'll probably buy a pair of these for my Track car project.

I don't see the rears? This is extremely temping for my 78, but damn if that car can't lock up the tires at pretty much any speed. Which means I don't need more brake. I need more tire! 'course, it may see some track time

Brendan - On DE days, I can brake like a u-know-what and get NO FADE with my upgrade...with the old 2-pods...it was a different story.

Here's the link to the rears...

Hey Mark
Do you know what the total conversion would cost? Rotors and adaptors are needed also, right?

Yea karl...I just can't remember the cost....go to 928 Specialists site, or give them a call.

ALSO - IIRC - if you're considering this for your '82 - you'll need to do a spindle changeout from a '79-81. That's another $100....

OK - I took the plunge and bought a set of front and rear calipers to install on the '78. I had a bad case of caliper envy after seeing Chuck Schreiber's '79 - sweet! A few questions - Other things I will need: Adapters - best source? Price? Rotors - what kind? Dust shields - I have a front set. Do I need rears? I intend on using 18" wheels but was wondering if the 16" phone dials will still fit? Anything else I need to know? Thanks

Steve - I got everything but my calipers from 928spec. DR will guide you thru it. There are 2 types of front calipers....one set has both pistons same size, another has different sizes. It won't make any difference EXCEPT which damper pads you need...so check that before ordering.

It is NOT that tough of a job...just VERY DIRTY!

A GOOD WYAIT - since they're going on your '78 - if you haven't done so already - replace those DANGEROUS aluminum ball joints!!!

My 16" slots fit with the brake upgrade...I can't speak for the phone dials. You're gonna LOVE those brakes!

One word of minor advice - the rear rotors you get will be Zimmermans. Make sure that you paint the rotor hats PRIOR to putting them on...otherwise, they will get that ugly surface rust...not a problem on the fronts.

Looking in PET, the pistons sizes on the calipers you're picking up are 40mm/36mm front and 34mm/30mm rear. The S4 calipers are 44mm(42mm in '87)/36mm front and 30mm/28mm rear. I don't know enough about brakes to know whether this will affect your setup at all, but I just wanted to throw it out there.

I bought front and rears in Oct. and I'm still trying to get my front calipers from LA Porsche Dismantlers. They sent two pairs of rears. I sent a pair back and they sent ANOTHER pair of rears. I informed them of their mistake and they sent ANOTHER pair of rears. So I had 3 pairs of rears still needing a front pair. I sent back 2 pairs of rears with photos (from their auction) showing the difference. Still waiting for a front pair. Hope to get this sorted out soon. To their credit, they paid for the return shipping each time, but this is getting ridiculous.
