I am saying that chasing ones you know is less interesting than chasing ones you don't.......Though I will admit that the pickins are pretty slim here....it is a hard life in the mountains, wears a person down.....up here you gotta get 'em young because they get ruined pretty early in life....

It is a good reason to find some other hobby...........a car won't let you down the way a woman will....Thank god sexual urge diminishes with age and the onset of friggin common sense......

Amen to that! My wife doesn't like to drive a manual transmission, so she's never driven mine. Loves to go for rides, though. However, she's actually agreed to let me begin the "hunt" for an automatic; thinks a 928 cabrio would be ideal. Personally, I'd have a whole warehouse full of 928s if I had the means to do so.

Someone who doesn't have the car gene asked me why we had seven cars-- thinking for a minute, I finally told them, "because that's all I can afford".....
No more questions after that.

I kinda "backed into" owning 2 928s. For 14 years I have owned my 86.5. I decided to spend some significant bucks over the next two years to bring it back up to pristine condition - to reward it for 225K miles of pure driving pleasure. But lo and behold the shop that has serviced my car for 12 of the 14 years had an 87 that the owner needed to part with. The PO wanted what I was going to put ionto the 86.5 - so with my wife's encouragement - I bought it! Now I've got 2. (Bringing me to a total of 4 cars.)

Unfortunately, I'm going to have to part with the 86.5 as I only have a one car carport. The good part is that the 87 is in supurb condition and I'll be able to start searching for a late model GTS a little sooner. I cut a side deal with the wife to tear down the one car carport and build a two car carport this year. That deal will allow me to keep the 87 and a GTS - when I buy one. (I've got to wait until my son gets out of college - tuition payments can really put a hurting on ones "Porsche Fund")

As a long term owner/driver I can tell you - there are very few, if any, cars out there that can match the satisfaction of owning a 928. There is absolutely no car that can match its capabilities on the road - none - nada - nyet! I have never owned a car that can run triple digit speeds hour after hour after hour and have you arrive at your destination just a fresh and relaxed as you were when you started. Try that in a Vette - without a kidney belt!

Exceprt from one of many "quick" 380 mile trips to Wrightsville Beach NC from Fairfax, VA
================
Wife: We seem to be making good time.... how fast are we going?
Me: A buck and a quarter....
Wife: Can I listen to the Bob James CD again?
Me: Sure..
Wife: How fast did you say we were going?
Me: 125....
Wife: It doesn't seem like we're going that fast.. are the detectors on?
Me: Yeah....
Wife: Wake me up when we get to Wilmington...
Me: OK
==========================
As long as I can acquire a 928, I will drive a 928.

Nuff said!

You wife sits quietly and enjoys smooth music....while you clip along at "a buck and a quarter" ??? You, my friend are a lucky man indeed. One thing though....while you are appropriating funds for the GTS, you might stuff a couple thousand aside and put up a garage, and upgrade the carport. A GTS tends to draw attention..and being able to "shut the door" is comforting when you have a car of its stature to look after. Not to mention hailstorms, tornadoes and all sorts of wind blown debris. Just a thought...happy motoring.

Yes I am lucky... my wife and I have been together for 27 years or about 1,000,000 miles! She knew I was a "car person" when we met and she's never tried to change me. She actually enjoys riding a high speeds on the highway... but says she's lost her nerves in the "twisty bits". That's okay... that's what we've got "the boy" for. BTW - he drives the 86.5 when he's home - with me in the other car of course - he's just 19.

As for the carport/garage - the plan is to have the two car carport designed/built to be converted into a two car garage later. I'll have the horizontal headers for the doors, proper "code" footings, interior joists and the electric service done when the new carport is constructed. That way when the day/money comes, I'l only have to do the exterior siding and a ceiling (optional). I wish a garage was only a couple of thousand, the last quote I got was $50K - I live in Fairfax County - anything to do with a house is going to cost you close to the national debt!

I know what you mean...my son is 18 (as of December 23, 05)...and he drives my 86.5 at each and every opportunity...even "how about I take the porsche and wash it ???I'll be back in a couple hours tops"...stuff like this is constantly coming my way. You know when I was 18...(going on 50 now unfortunately), I drove a 65 Chevy Malibu with a 283 4speed/ 4 barrel and headers...it was my older brothers for a bit and I inherited it. That started the ball rolling in my love of cars...then sports cars...then 928s.

Or, when one breaks down, you still have a 928 to drive

Jeff, considered adding some forced induction to the one you have?

You could make it happen for half the cabbage of another car...

Put a supercharger on that baby!

I gotta remember that one! We get so darn tired of questions from neighbors, family & friends as to why we have five cars(was six last year). And your answer is soooo right on cause I've told my wife many times if I ever won the lottery(gotta start playing it 1st), that I would have at least a 12 car garage at a minimum!

2 to 5 is a pretty big range.

I seem to recall that this poll has been done before?

How about an option for

'Just 1, but it's definitely NOT enough'
