Any ideas for a fire extinguisher mount, 94 GTS, UPDATED WITH PICS
I've searched the archives with no luck. Where is a good place to mount a fire extinguisher. I just bought a 12" Halon model (chrome) and thought in front of the passenger seat, but the seat motor is in the way.
One idea is to fabricate an aluminum plate that will attach to the seat track bolts and extend in front of the seat so that the fire extinguisher mount can be attached.
I don't want to drill any holes in the interior panels.
Do any vendors sell a fire extinguisher mounting plate or bracket for a 928 GTS?
Has anyone done something like this? Any suggestions?

I HAVE installed a fire extinguisher on the bulkhead of the rear seat behind the driver. There is a bracket on the bulkhead for an infant carrier strap (I think that is what it is for). I removed the bracket and used the hardware and holes to mount the extinguisher bracket.

DEVEK sell one that mounts to the existing holes after you remove the center console box. You can take it in or out in less than 10 minutes and no holes to drill or alterations to the car.

Bill,
I have not done this on the 928 yet, but did this on 2 prior toys(yet another winter project). I put the fire extinguishers in front of both passenger and drivers seats mounted to custom aluminum brackets. I used the front mounting bolts on the seats for the attachment points.
To make the brackets, I use 1/8" masonite or stiff cardboard to make a template. Once this is fit perfectly, mount the template, and check for clearance with the seat in the position you would drive in. Depending on the shape of the floorpan, the extinguisher bracket may need to be offset to sit flush to the floor. Any good welding and metal fabrication shop should be able to either make it to fit your template, or sell you a piece of 1'8" aluminum stock to cut it yourself. A good metal blade on either a reciprocating saw or jig saw will cut through this material easily. Dress up, the rough edges, and bolt it up. Should cost less than $20, and if trimmed well, disappears from sight behind the fire extinguishers.
Good Luck,
Jim R.

They used to have brackets for power seats at http://www.stableenergies.com/products.asp?dept=45
That's where I bought the bracket for my non-power seats... those are out of stock ATM as well.

Not "cool" but works fine:
Re-use the holes for the tie-downs just in front of the rear seats. Mount the bracket that came with the extinguisher there.
My extinguisher is tucked back there. One screw into metal makes it legal for the DE I run.

Great idea. I removed the child seat tie-down from the bulkhead beneath the driver's side rear seat., then attached the fire extinguisher bracket. I did have to drill an extra hole in the supplied fire extinguisher bracket. I'll post a picture tomorrow morning. Thanks. This forum rocks.

Thanks again for the helpful ideas. For now, I've gone with mounting the extinguisher behind the driver's seat, using the child seat tie-down to mount the extinguisher bracket. Here are the pics.

I like your idea for mounting the bracket, but may I suggest a lock pin (the hair-clip style) to keep the over-canter latch from unlatching in an impact. Think of that bottle as a 5 lb projectile ! I have seen it happen - the fire bottle was thrown out of the car upon impact - THRU THE WINDSHIELD ! Fortunately, the driver was only surprised......

Where did the factory mount the fire extinguisher? I keep mine "floating" in the passenger-side footwell.
My girlfriend, who lives in Belgium, drives a Peugeot 406 coupe. This car, and her previous Citroen Zantia, had the mandatory fire extinguisher mounted along the "transmission tunnel", fore and aft. Did Porsche mount it this way in the 928's? I don't see any mounting points in my Austrian-edition '85 for this-

Sorry to be late for the party but here's where I attached my extinguisher after I read about the cat fire recalls. Right where I can reach it if I'm still alive after the crash and if I can't put out the fire, at least I can knock myself unconscious with it.
