Cool

Gretch,
I've always appreciated the sharing of information on this board. The value of the information is an individual appreciation. As an individual shopping for a 928, I appreciate any input from any source. I sometimes think that Lowmiler, Sean and others get attacked as if they have ulterior motives. I'm not sure if it serves any constructive purpose to question another members veracity

Well stated, Larry. Gretch can come across as a bit of a cynic at times.

I think Low Miler's heart is in the right place - maybe we'd all be less cynical of him if we knew at least his first name...

My point was that the car seemed to merit a look from the data provided - not a purchase contract! Should it pass the 'look' by one with some 928 expertise, then a PPI, etc. Ya never know 'till ya look under the rock .... and there are never any absolutes in the used car business -ever! - well, OK,' risk' is an absolute

Good point. I've said more than once I think, that IMHO it merits a look. Somebody ought to ask if it was a demo, if they are interested enough to contact the owner. They may not want to say so even if it was.

Well, there is a clear line between veracity and credibility. I am not questioning Lomilers "veracity" which is defined as:

Adherence to the truth; truthfulness.
Conformity to fact or truth; accuracy or precision: a report of doubtful veracity.
Something that is true.

My point was his enthusiasum fo someone else to spend their money on his say so, with ZERO due diligence, lacks "credibility", which is defined as:

The quality, capability, or power to elicit belief.

I was also careful to point out that such actions lack value TO ME. I am not speaking for anyone else here.

Some guy bought a car last week for a good price and it needed plenty of work, but he thought he got a good deal. Lomiler proceeded through multiple posts (with zero personal knowledge of the car), to **** all over this guy's parade. That set of events may have clouded my judgement.

I may have been too quick to judge, if so, I offer my apologies.

This site is valueable to me because it is a place I can find quality information, given by people with experience and who value intellectual honesty. I hope it remains that way.

Well........I Am a cynic.............Randy is correct about that.

FWIW, I have no issue with folks using handles on chat boards ( hell, If my name WAS Gretch, that would explain my "cynical" nature, I suppose).......HLMenkin said: 'it may be unkind to think ill of your fellow man,......but it is rarely incorrect".

I suppose there are many reasons why people come here, and maybe I need to come to peace with the fact that some of those reasons may well be in conflict with others.

I will stand down. Todd, I a sure you are a great guy IRL, anyone who is fixated on the 928 can't be half as bad as I am......

In three years it lost 1000 miles? It probably has at least 30K more miles on it, possibly 60K. Still maybe a great car but I would consider it to have at least average mileage and a cloud over the history. When the time comes for resale the issue would be raised again.

Well I have no opinion other than one should look; that Todd was perhaps just trying to share which I appreciate, and that this is a fishy-sounding deal indeed.

On mileage .... my 1985 is absolutely verified to have done exactly 500 miles in 5 years. Believe it. From new till 500 miles, it took 5 years. The second owner purchased the car in a factory-new shape, and then proceeded to add 80k miles to it over the next 19 years by grandma-ing to the office and back.

But.....

It is BLATANTLY OBVIOUS when one looks at the car.

Welcome Todd!
I enjoy learning about "opportunities" such as the S4 you made us aware of...and would welcome more such FYI postings as you come across them.
Best,
Tim

Hey Gretch,

Keep up the "cynical" comments.. I like 'em. Being disappointed in the quality of someone's style (on whatever front that may be) because he who owns the same car is kinda endearing too. You must be a romantic with good powers of observation

"Miserable, straight talkin', SOB" has been used as much more accurate approbation......though, as an approbation....it clearly walks a narrow line.......
