Depending on budget and whether I'd have two cars or just one:
Porsche 968 or 944 S2
Nissan 300ZX
Mazda RX-7 (still miss the '86 I had in Germany)
Audi TT
Infinity G35 coupe
Mercedes CLK 300 coupe
Aston Martin DB-9 (I wish...)
If I was living in Germany, I'd drive one of these:
- Audi TT (if I could afford it)
- Renault Megane turbo diesel
- or something similar to the above, maybe even smaller...

It was the V8 that hooked me. Second choice would not be a Porsche, I'm afraid, though I have yet to drive a Cayenne. Second choice in this class of car might be a late XK-8 or S. I haven't given much thought to what I would want if there were no 928... because there IS the 928.
A Ruf 993.
Or a tiptronic transmission in my 914/6 2.7L. ( I bought the 928 on advice of a surgeon who had just removed part of the cartilage in my left knee and advised me to drive a clutchless car.)
Or if money was no object, a road version of the GT1, no question about it. I am only about $950,000.00 short today. But I have a piggy bank.
The Ferrari 456 has a certain appeal to me. I followed one on Hwy. 280 once and it moved pretty well. Right size and equipment. Am not excited about reputed maintenance costs, though.
Oh yeah, the Acura NSX. Drove one once, and liked it alot. And I think it is a beautiful machine, an honest espression of form following function aesthetically.

The whole "money no object" car has been done too many times before. Assuming you would replace the 928 with something of comparable price now, (not when new), I think I would target a 968. They can be found at about S4 prices. Boxsters are getting affordable, under $20K. But maybe a Miata instead, with a lot of $$$$ left over for serious engine upgrades! Of course, despite the fact it is a ricer, how bout a Subaru WRX? The WRX STi is still a little over 928 S4 prices though.
I'm sure there are some others I'm forgetting.....

My next favorite Porsche, and possibly added to the 928 in the not too distant future is a '91 to '94 C2 Turbo. Would prefer a 3.6 Turbo S, but would settle on the old 3.3l.
