damn that stinks. So, how big of a hassle do you expect from the police insurance to fix it?

JP and I arrived home about 1:15. Radar detector saved my *** on 221. The guy behind me that I passed who was trying to catch back up wasn't so lucky. I heard the KA crap, got hard on the brakes, moved to the right lane and up over the hill he came.

We just saw a car go head into the guard rail 200' in front of me, spun 180, people jumped out. What an adventurous trip. Almost to Harrisburg PA.

Don't know yet. Still waiting up police report. This is the cars maiden voyage and it was doing so good.

At a minimum:
Driver side control arm, spindle, bearing, tie rods, phone dial
Euro fender
Fender liners
Rear metal message/rebuild
Frame alignment check (IE did nose shift passenger side)
Driver side respray (whole car for match)
etc

Diminished value etc

Great group of 928 enthusiasts really there for us during an event that could have turned out much worse. Glad I took out that life insurance and guaranteed value policy.

This was the 26th year. I still want to go to one, preceded by driving to Seth's house and forcing him to 'finish' and take the Red Witch to SITM '25.

You will not be disappointed! The roads are spectacular and varied. The charm of Appalachia is undeniable and quite frankly, friendly to an extreme!

Plus you get to meet up with a group that has partying down to an artful science.

Hint, Fly into Traverse City where a 928 of some unusual specification will pick you up. Stay at my tar paper shack in the woods for a day or two of midwestern hospitality and then we could drive a couple of 928's to the event on some great expressways and backroads. (I know a few routes). Alternatively, fly into Seth's fabled Blacksburg - Red Witch garage, Detroit or another midwestern city like a visit with Hanz or any number of crazies for the drive down. Any way you choose to arrive and play will be worth it! Life's short and ya do not want to miss hitting this party at least once!

Do It!

My buddy's wreck has the left side front suspension if you need it. He also has a pair of phone dials. I think he has a fender, but it won't be a Euro. Let me know what you need and I'll bring it up to you.

Thank you! I'll buy any left side guts you have. I do not know it needs everything but I am going to do everything (insurance aside) because the front wheel had a 6000 lb SUV hit it at a 30 degree angle. Hackker had Mark Anderson on text the moment it happened. He confirmed he has the fender.

Good news, after getting hit by a deer and popping the head gasket, the red 80 made it home safe on the trailer. Daniel was very nervous about driving the race car home (we did swap out the Toyo RA1's for the Michelin Pilots from the red 80 - lots of rain in the forcast).
At the first gas stop he had a **** eating grin on his face.
Through Milwaukee we came upon a pristine 90's 300ZX that noticed the 928's and tagged along with us for a while.

Took longer to get home due to a big accident on I-64. Google caught it as we were coming into Lexington and kept us on I-75 to Cincinnati.
We left the hotel at 9:30EST and rolled into the driveway at 10:30CST. 857 miles in 14 hours flat. Not bad being able to average 61.21mph including stops, pulling a trailer and checking all fluids and tires on everything with each stop.

Somewhere in Indiana, traffic started to back up fast and saw folks up ahead merging right, nothing on Google or Waze so figured something just happened, then I could smell burning car. Came upon a GMC Arcadia with flames under the car. Having 5+ extinguishers on hand I figured it was worth stopping to help. As soon as I pulled over Danno knew why and he grabbed one from the race car, I grabbed one that was in the rig and we were able to put it out rather quickly.
Knowing these vehicles, the timing chain probably snapped which punched a hole in the pan. There was a huge puddle (and growing) of motor oil under the vehicle. The couple didn't speak English, made sure they were OK, had the police on the phone and had the mile marker and hit the road.
At the next gas stop I had to explain to Danno that popping and opening the hood as fast as he did isn't a great idea..... Thankfully this fire was under the engine so he didn't lose any eyebrows.

After that it was clear sailing.

Awesome weekend. Lot's of faces I missed and even plenty of new ones (most names were familiar). Not sure I'll be able to make any more events this year, but SITM 2025 is already on the calendar and my nephew is shopping for a 928 now (I'm going to give him my fathers 81, he doesn't know it yet).

After the fire was out - thankfully the race car doesn't have cats. When I looked over and saw it in the high grass my first thought was that exhaust setting the grass on fire.

hopefully someone had their cameras rolling to show the cop and the illegal uturn so the 928 owner can be appropriately compensated.

That's what I was thinking. Probably send him a ticket for failing to yield to a Trooper with his lights on.

Reminds me of way way back when Ed (YMMV) was pulled over for "speeding" by a Trooper. Ed pulled over and stopped, but apparently the Trooper didn't see that he stopped so quickly and ran right into the back of his 928. Of course the Trooper blamed Ed for a "quick" stop, but after many months and getting the Troopers video of the incident, Ed showed that he had pulled over and stopped in a reasonable fashion and the Trooper didn't pay attention and hit Ed's 928. Took a while, so hopefully it'll work out for you in the end and glad the damage wasn't such that the car wasn't operable.

Thanks to many 928OC/Rennlisters, Vendors, and Friends The Princess (Jill's 85) got back on the road just in time. I'd gotten the car fueling issues done in February and drove it for TWO DAYS before the Torque Tube Bearings started WHINING to the point it was apparent the car wasn't going to make all the 2024 trips we planned on without it coming out. Then the Transmission WYIT work added to it. Thanks to Constantine, Howard from ATL, DaveK, Roger, Hans, Kev from ATL, Merlin, John in TX, and countless others help I got it all done. Ran like a dream....down and back. At the last gas stop the windows quit rolling down....so...on to the dash, CE panel, and Pod we drudge ever forward with joy. I've already been given 2 logical starting points/culprits to start checking. Do they sell DEOXIT in 55 Gallon Drums? I even got a few last minute INTERNATIONAL tutorial from Colin on a brake boosters. Always a great time, always learn something.

Thank you Jeannie, Hans, and Worf for a great event and hospitality.

We had a great time. See you in OH, MT, and VA. Dan & Jill
