Talking new short shifter & 930 steering wheel

I picked my car up from Motorsport yesterday and the new short shifter and 930 steering wheel had been installed. All I can say is WOW! It's like having a new car! The wheel looks and feels awesome, and I can't stop gushing over the short shifter. I highly recommend either modification.

I once test drove an S4 with that steering wheel and agree that it feels awesome! Too bad it does not come with an airbag!

I like that it does not have any exposed metal spokes. I'd rather bang my head on something with a little pading...

Are the 930s wheels smaller in diameter? By how much? Thanks in advance

I believe it is a little smaller, but most of all it is thicker and softer - it's really nice to the touch. And it looks darn good...

Very nice Mark! I keep debating going with a wheel like this or modifying a new Boxter or 993 air bag (air bag guts removed).

Might just be an optical illusion, but your wheel looks thicker and nicer than some I've seen pictured elsewhere. Curious, how many different sources/versions of this 930 wheel are there? I know AJ USA sells 'em, the Big Three has 'em (but no pics?) and there is also a fellow on eBay selling "real" 930 wheels and a knock off version. Where is the best place to buy these and how much $$$ are we talking?

The short shifter is on my to-do list also... and GTS mirrors and roof top antenna and window tint and high flow exhaust and SC kit and stroker...

Ah hell, I think I need therapy!

When you do the rooftop antenna, be careful: I put mine forward just a little bit, so as to not interfere with the sunroof motor and hardware, but my sunroof bumps against the antenna mounting nut.

The AJUSA wheel is great, and you can get an extender/adapter that raises the wheel up about 3/4 of an inch and out about a half an inch. made a huge difference for me in optimal seat position. The short shifter is a great improvement also. It is astounding how tall the standard S4 shifter is compared the the GT shifter, and the short shifter is shorter than the gt shifter and it also reduces the "throw" by about 40%. In the picture below the shifter is the original GT shifter. see next post for comparison.

Congrats!! One of the best mods I ever did was the 930 wheel in both sharks. Still in limbo on the short shifter and GTS **** boot! Very nice and I see it is the Real Porsche version at that, with the embossed crest.

Gretch, did you buy the colored crest separately and add it to your wheel?

The 930 wheel is REAL nice. Another very nice alternative is the Momo Club 4. It is also 14 inches in diameter (about 1 inch smaller than stock) and a bit beefier than the stock 928 wheel.

Bill,
Damn...that is one nice looking wheel...thanks for sharing the photo!
I have an early 930 wheel with leather covered metal spokes made by Italv Lanti - gold Porsche crest that I need to dye from dark brown to black leather. Is anyone here facile with this process who will be at SITM and would be willing to do a tech session on my wheel at the Holiday Inn?

I'm game...ready to get this thing installed! If it looks bad...will just send it down to Alan Gunn (AGLA) for the dye job...

Cheers,
Tim

Hi Guys,

Don't buy the 928GTS shifter boots right now from Porsche. They had a problem and both of the ones that we have ordered from DEVEK don't fit. I am not blaming Susan, they have tried to be very helpful. Porsche just doesn't seem to care that Klink-the drunken German has been making the bottom of the boot too small to fit.

Yes, even the naysayers in the shop who doubted the short shifter say it might be the best upgrade for the money.

Good luck and happy motoring.

P.S. I checked out John Pirtle's site...kind of sad about his friend. Nice tribute, however.
