I was also looking at the car last year, when it was still around 25.000€. I was actually offered it by J. Auer when I contacted him to perform an independent PPI on another car in Germany. I was specifically looking at the older type seats, and was not sold on the red on red color scheme. Though the red striped seats look really good. I also love the exterior color, but together, not my thing.
J. Auer seemed very knowledgeable, but he was swamped with work. Ultimately, I had another shop visit the car I was looking at and bought that one.

It has significantly dropped in price since, at which point I think it is a good deal. Even after spending another 16k, you'd have one cheaper than what I paid for mine (and I too, have spent at least 10k since).

I saw your car. I believe there is no comparison, yours is in a much better condition [beautiful car by the way!] plus it has 100K+ kms less.
For what it's worth the final price for the car I am contemplating is 14.000 euros. I think it is a good price and will leave me with money in the bank for necessary work/spares for the first couple of years. Barring some serious problem surfacing, I will take it.

Thanks! Even the good looking ones need attention. My total sum adds up to triple the final price on yours, and I'm still not done yet I'm afraid.
I may have overpaid, but once you're in the car, you soon forget.

Good luck with it! 2500km is a lot to take you home. It will definitely be a great way to get to know the car. Fingers crossed it will be an uneventful adventure!

Ok, my thoughts from the pictures:

Tuv report, car is in toad worthy condition, all ok
cooler is new
shocks are the second or third ones
ignition cables are not the first
Engine department, looks like garaged and not so much winter use
driver seats side bolster can you fix with a patch of leather and liquid leather

Inthink you can trust Mr. Auers reputation

This sure looks like a nice car, to me.
And the price is below current market, in Europe.
I'd replace the fuel hoses and the power steering pressure hose, before driving 2500kms.

The "G" in the VIN means it's a 'model year' 86. Remember that the factory changed over to the 'next year' in summer and started producing them in the fall.

So even if it was built in late 85, it's still an '86'.

And ALL the 86 S2 (Euro) cars had the bigger brakes & suspension upgrades.
What's commonly called an '86.5' in US cars was 'all year long' in the Euros.

Congrats. You have what is perhaps the best 928 of them all. Older body style (lighter), M28/21 'twin dizzie' 16v motor, better brakes and suspension.

And a 5 speed.

Thank you all for the useful advices and kind words. I will contact the seller. In the (probable) case of an agreement I will then ask Mr Auer to do a comprehensive service.

Interior looks clean

And the boot as well

Springs will be replaced. As per Mr Auer (who confirmed that he is semi-retired) the car has passed the TUV relatively recently (autumn 2022) and will make the trip no problem.

Toolbox

A bit of rust in the fuel tank. Juergen thinks it is not critical.

If the cars have the original boot cover itˋs an indication they had a good home. The tool tray is also complete with no water damage.
No cracked dashboard, I would think always garaged or under a carport. My 84 Swiss car had a big crack in the middle of the board .
The fuel pump cover you can restore at home, in Greece itˋs dry and sunny.

Well, the seller is on vacation but I believe that an agreement has been reached. If everything goes according to plan, we may finish the formalities in the next month or so (since I will be on vacation as well) and will then collect the car from Juergen Auer. Plunge taken…

That's not the actual fuel tank.
The tank itself is plastic and cannot rust.

What you are looking at is the tank cradle & fuel pump/filter cover.

The cradle is forward of the seam, the cover is behind and above it.

The cover is simply a piece of stamped sheet metal and can easily be replaced.

The cradle is also replaceable, but takes some extra effort.

Thank you for the information.
Hopefully this week or the next (vacations…) I will sort out the red tape issues with seller. It is my understanding that the car is currently registered in Switzerland. Herr Auer drove the car in the past week and maintains that it will make the trip, no problem. Has changed springs and tyres as well.
