Default Help identifying missing control unit

Hi everyone,

After searching through the workshop manual, and trying to decipher the wiring manual, I thought I would ask here as I suspect several of the more knowledgeable forum members would be able to help me fairly quickly.

I recently bought a -90 GT with about 9000 KM on it which had been standing for 18 years due to a previous owner driving it without checking the oil. I have since had the entire engine rebuilt and it is now back in the car and I'm beginning the reassembly.

When I inspected the interior, underneath the steering wheel, I found two cables and a missing slot for a control unit. I have been unable to identify what type of unit is missing here. Unfortunately, in the box of parts I got with the car there's no unit so I will have to source one.

Can someone help me identify what control unit should be fixed here?

Thank you in advance, and my apologies in advance for the fairly trivial question.

Thank you Karsten - do you know the part number or the unit's name?

I enjoy puzzles!

Starting from the location coordinates you are looking at position reference 8dN [approximately]. Now if you look at the construction components chart in that [approximate location] location it shows two elements called switching units that appear to be connected to the two sensors that monitor the temperature of the cats and presumably controls the relays that can shutdown fuel to the offending circuit that is causing the problem. These items can be seen in the wiring diagram field P28/29.

If the cats have been deleted on your example then these items would be of no significance hence may have been deleted. The wiring has 5 or so cores on each plug and as I can tell from your photo look similar. My 928 does not have cats so I have never seen such items so cannot be at all sure this is correct but a starting point in your search perhaps?

Part Nr. 27.
You should ask 928 international if they have a used refurbished one. Price for new is not funny.

The price is hilarious!

At US$834 a pop one could even purchase two and have a spare. How on earth can Porsche justify prices like this for relatively irrelevant pieces of kit?- makes me want to throw up.

Everything on my 928 is setup for air conditioning operation only- I have no coolant going to the heater so no idea if the temperature control unit on my 928 is working [or not]. The only thing I need to control is the blower speed and I know that works!

Good spot by the way.

There's just enough 928's around that they can take the p*ss but not so many that an aftermarket alternative would make financial sense.
