Default REAR MUFFLER BYPASS QUESTION

I am contemplating doing a rmbp on my 87. It is registered as an antique here in Texas and I previously had the cats drilled out which definitely improved performance and added a little more bass rumble. No smog here in Texas for antique vehicles. Most normal states have same smog rules as Texas so I'm not worried about the cats affecting my price when I finally decided to sell. My question: Does a rmbp effect value one way or the other.

Thanks
Lon

It’s a plus for me. Keep the original muffler.

It‘s too loud without cats. I had this with X Pipe and 200 cell cats in my S3 and the drone on longer trips is annoying.

I was wondering about the sound being too loud. I'm pretty sure that since the cat were not removed but were drilled out instead, that the exhaust noise is still a little muffled. I absolutely do not want to annoy my neighbors each time I start it.

Test it. You must only deinstall the rear muffler.
On Autobahn at 5.000 rpm it‘s a constant drone.

As long as you have the stock rear muffler to fit back you have nothing to lose.

If you have a model that was originally kitted with cats and they are not functional I would think that will have a detrimental impact on resale value given the price of those things even if it is not legally required.

You are not allowed to do 5000 rpm in fifth gear over there.

It depends.

Many auction sites wont list it, because it impacts where they can take bids from.

A private sale...well..given two of the same cars, the tuner world has taught me to buy the least molested one...as a general rule...

But hold on to all the stuff you deleted for HP you never use, the day is coming..

Sound is the #1 attribute of ICE cars. I have the best sounding 928, I have described the construction and posted pics. I say do it.

Why would anyone say no? Everyone liked the sound of my car even elderly people! EVERYONE loved the sound of F1 from 86 to 94 and now everyone hates F1 flaccid sound. SOUND!

Don't listen to the killjoys enjoy life!

Those idiots at Novitec don't know what they are doing.

I have a couple with x pipe, and rear muffler delete and I think they sound great. Not too loud for me. No cats, but the stock resonator is still there.
I agree that should hold onto all removed stock parts. It leaves future options to return to stock, and stock cats and mufflers are getting more pricey. (In fact, from a $ standpoint it may have been better to replace your cats with x pipe and not destroy the cats)
