Default 1988 s4 body conversion to GTS style

Hello all,
Did anyone go into this conversion? What are the main components to change? Is it straight forward or a great deal of modifications are needed?

As far as I know, find a set of GTS quarter panels, gas cap cover, and rear bumper cover.

To do the job properly you need to acquire two rear wings and go to all the bother of removing the stock items and welding the new ones into place and then painting etc. Add to that the rear bumper needs to be replaced together with the GTS reflector and badges- to want to do this one would have to be mental in my opinion but whatever floats one boat.

My dear friend Louie Ott did had some custom fibre glass panels made to give an even wider stance but then in the context of the animal Louie built it kind of made sense but for a stock S4 to imitate a GTS not really. Whether or not those panels are available anywhere I have no clue. Indeed I have no idea if the original GTS panels are available from Porsche- maybe Mark Anderson at 928 International has some?

Thanks a lot Fred.. I think the parts are available.. I've seen them at rosepassion.com... How about the rear wheels I guess they need parts to make them aligned with wider wings?

for the rear wheels you need
]2 new wheel bearings,( originals damaged when removal of the hub to swap the studs)
and 10 GTS longer studs,
and 2 wider GTS spacers 38MM IIRC
NOTE for the amount of time , parts, painting to do the swap it might be prudent to buy a GTS and sell your S4,
that way no original cars get damaged.

You clearly have a nice example why screw with it?

I have my late 90S4 motor in a 92 GTS chassis and I do not give a toss what anybody else thinks - I enjoy it.

If you really must have a GTS flog the S4 and buy a GTS but for heavens sake do not butcher the obviously nice example you have!

Stan has covered the wheels and you have the aero mirrors already.

Thanks a lot... Will definitely hold on to what I have.. Especially that I had a great deal of respect to the renovation.. All parts used were new and genuine... All work done at the porsche workshop

I have no idea whereabouts in the world you are but wherever you are I suspect you will extract optimum value with what you have. The aero mirrors will not detract and a set of 17 inch GTS rims would not go amiss either but be happy with what you have if it suits your needs.

For my purposes I like cars and motorbikes that handle beyond expectation thus my suspension and wheel mods but they are not to everyone's taste. However I know I can fit the standard GTS wheels anytime I choose providing I can find some rubber for them but that is not as easy as it seems over here. The motor is not a GTS engine and thus my 928 will never have the same pecuniary value but I reckon the later S4 models had inherently better motors and thus less problemmatical. I am sure my late 90S4 was better built than my current GTS but it remains an excellent vehicle no matter.

I’m in agreement… why chop Ip a great s4? ( if nothing else start with one that needs bodywork )
Otherwise, if it’s the fenders you are smitten with, have you looked into a body kit? You may have to get from Germany but they are out there. I think way less expensive in the end.

GTS quarters are available.

GTS fuel doors are available.

The spring for the fuel door is NLA, as Kevin mentioned. I will have to buy a GTS parts car just for the spring.

If you really wanted to do this, I have a S4 that has rear fenders that are trashed where some bozo tried to roll them or something. Keep in mind too that it depends on where you live. The GTS rear fenders stick way out and are much more likely to get dinged in a narrow parking space (which is all we have in Honolulu) and the GTS mirrors greatly reduce your ability to see cars in the lane next to you than are nearly even with you. They are fine for cars far behind you, and they look good, but not at all worth it to me. So much so that I was considering putting flag mirrors on my GTS.
