Default Ansa exhaust for an 83 euro? Any views?

The previous owner of my 83Seuro had a suspicion that the middle silencer may have been emptied of its internals and it doesn’t seem to have done any good at all to the overall sound of the car.
I have seen a new Ansa system for sale but can’t find much feedback on them.
Would it be a good one to go for? I can’t stretch to a very fancy system or would just getting a replacement second hand middle box be a better way to go?

Many thanks in advance.

A NOS dual Ansa system for sale? That is extremely rare and I'm guessing ludicrously expensive for what they are. Being mild steel and not stainless they sound a bit different, more raspy and in my opinion better than the stock system. The problem is they shouldn't be worth much because they don't last long. The lifespan of the old Ansa mild steel systems were only about 18 months or so before the rot started kicking in. For the 928 these were advertised as cheaper alternatives to the stock system, and mostly 4.5L OBs had them. The dual S version is a lot rarer.

I would not hesitate to purchase and install one IF it was reasonably priced and I needed a new exhaust system. But in the long term you are better off replacing your muffler with a durable addition.

Thanks for the great information!
Its not too bad price wise actually but I am now not sure if it is not going to last well at all.

Thanks again.

Cliff,
If you were in the US, I would ask you to please come and get the ANSA system that I took off my 84 S2. The garbage men wouldn't even take it. It was a performance degrading system for my car. I'm guess that I was lucky that mine did not rot, but I think it would be easier to get rid of if it was a pile of rust. I had all kinds of issues with the ANSA exhaust on my car. I could not, in good conscience, recommend an ANSA exhaust.

Just put on a Borla - sound great with ZERO drone, last a long time, and is a proven commodity. Have round tube SS headers to catless Y-pipe to a Borla cat back system on both my 79 supercharged 928 and my 84 Euro S twin-dizzy.

I have the original dual Ansa end muffler on my car. Several pictures of it on another thread here on rennlist. It was a bit of a hassle to refurbish, my Tig-welding skills were put to test. It sounds really good, not raspy at all. This is why I even bothered to restore it. Sounds deep with a nice dampened burble and a sharper but not raspy/screamy tone it you rev it up. If you have one of these and they sound raspy, you must open them and restore the damping and maybe loose walls inside. But the prices are not cheap. I have recently seen a n.o.s dual end muffler for sale online. They wanted 750 dollars for that one. I have also seen one in very nice condition that they wanted 300 dollars for. I haven't seen a whole ansa-system though. Ansa/Marmitte did make high quality original systems for lamborghini and ferrari but as someone mentioned, they were not made to last forever, many were made in ordinary steel. Another thing which no one mentions is the ansa's had the curved endpipes which goes out and straight back. I wonder why they did that, it doesn't look to good. My endpipes had the the polished covers still on but they were cracked. So i redid everything with stainless endpipes and made them stick out sideways similar to the original...

This is my Ansa back box I recently refurbished, this is the second Ansa system I've had in 30 years on this car, so can't really complain I guess.

Confused now 😂😂
I would just like more of a burble 😂
The seller of the one I have seen hasn’t been very talkative and the back box doesn’t look the same as the one above.
I think the overall set up looks right but don’t want to waste £££ if wrong.
have also emailed a couple of bespoke companies this afternoon.

Another one, but with shipping it would be too expensive I guess:
https://www.autospecialplanet.com/fr...-928-1977-1982
And another one that had a startprice of 390£ but weren't sold, ended 5th may. Maybe contact that guy and do a deal:

But on another note, with the right borla system they sound great also. Get the right one that doesn't scream and you will be ok..

That's exactly what I wanted. Maybe I have to record my sound and put it in here. Then you could easier decide. But you would need headphones or big speakers too hear it. These pc's or phones are having a hard time moving low big soundwaves...

Those boxes are different to the one I have seen but they go up to 82 and my car is an 83.
Sounds like the one I have seen (full system) is a decent price, just a few questions over whether it is the correct one still.

Yes I have seen that they write "up to 1982". But these were only made for our cars with the true dual exhaust, it will fit a 1983 also. As all of our cars originally had almost a whole welded system, you would have to cut the original system accordingly behind the "back middle" box to fit this ansa muffler. On my car they had done a real botchjob and welded them end to end, with absolutely horrible welds and fitment. That's why I redid everything with new pipes under the rear axel etc.

Why not buy Porsche original? It‘s not more expensive and stainless steel.
