Default Just pulled the oil plug on the holbert car. No teeth found!

Seems, it has stopped sheading cam sprocket teeth. (its lost 3 teeth on different cams so far)

This is the first oil change in a year, that hasnt found a tooth from the cam sprockets attached to the oil plug magnet.

by the way, after 1500miles street driving, and 3 race weekends, there was very little of anything on the magnet.

Next two races, SCCA double regional at Laguna, and the Speed World Challenge at Sears Point (Infinion Raceway) on July 13th

Hail to Amzoil!

No teeth left ?

I really think you should do something about this.

As a gesture of support ( I have done my bit to support Don ) If you want them I have a set of 87 cams you can have FoC (and as my grandma used to say "Istill have all my own teeth") that I will bring to OCIC. If you are not there there must be someone local to you who is attending who can deliver them to you ?

Any good ?

I think Jon has been sampling the Beaujolais again... Cams FoC!!!

I guess I shouldn't be surprised, he's been very generous to me...

For a moment I thought you were still using those disintegrating cams in a race car, silly me.

Ya'know, This got me thinking... If the majority of our engine parts are aluminum and magnesium and other non-ferrous metals... What hell good is a magentic drain plug? It certainly won't attract these items. Maybe someone can lift the fog in my head... Anyone?

Hopefully there aren't broken teeth jammed in oil passages or sitting under something that'll break them and scar itself upon restart.

Anyone want to start the Kibort motor deathwatch? I call next race!
Just kidding, Mark, but every time you post about this I get real nervous. Get those cams from jon, man.

This is the original motor built by porsche back in 1985-6. It powered the car to a 182mph run in europe in March of '86 before the August 7th speed run on salt of 172mph. 10 years as an IMSA pace car and given to an autoshop teacher just outside the porsche plant in Reno,Nevada . running very poorly, we got it tuned up and its now on its 3rd race season, with over 40 race days on the engine. The only thing that has been off the engine is the water pump clutch pack and timing belt!
miles on the engine when I got it was 18,500. now its 26,500 and drove about 1500miles last winter and of course, i drive to the events too, sometimes over 200miles each way. most race weekends push 1.5 hours per day of track time.

The interesting thing about the cam sprocket teeth is that none of the teeth have broken adjacent to the broken teeth. Im missing 3 teeth on 3 different cams sprockets

last i looked after the last tooth fall out, was that the other teeth were all attached. usually, it seems they take a direct route right to the pan and get grabbed by the magnet.
