Default OMG, what have I done to my poor 928? UPDATE #1 - COMPRESSION

At 5:00 today, my engine looked like this:

A few short hours later:

I did find my original Porsche crest under the "U"

Other:

Few squirts of Simple Green Degreeser and you have this:

I had 6 months of winter, why the f*ck did I start this project now? Oh yea, to put this on:

I discovered my WOT switch is busted. Would this account for a total feeling of no power at about 4500 rpm when at full throttle? I hope so.

Anything else I should address while I'm this far?

How the hell do you get the rubber hoses off the injectors? I'm going to re-use my injectors but not the rubber hoses. I cut two of them off, holy sh*t they are on their good. Any ideas?

Wow, that's red! That's going to look nice, installed.

The upper throttle switch is really something like a 2/3 and up switch. It makes the L-brain go into open loop, and give a somewhat richer mixture.

Fixing it will might help with the high rpm power loss a little. You'll need to up the fuel pressure to make it go away. (D'yer cams line up? )

The manual says to cut the stops and use a soldering iron to burn off the hoses. I used an Exacto knife and reused the stops.

Hacker,

I would second the motion on 'wow, that's red!'

Should look neat.

The factory recommended procedure for removing the injector hoses is to (get this) BURN them off with a soldering iron. Honest to Ferdinand.

I personally prefer (and recommend) cutting them off with a very sharp cutting tool. It will take some work. You can also burn them. Low watttage pencil tip. Maybe flash off any residual gasoline by spraying with brake cleaner - then lettting that flash off too. No, there's no real open flame, hence no serious risk of fire, but I'm still not enamoured of the whole 'burn 'em off' thing.

I'm sure you already know (but I'm just doing my duty here) to use fuel injection hose clamps (the spiffy, semi-expensive kind) NOT the cheapo standard hose clamps when you replace the hose. Also, you must use fuel injection hose - but you know that too I'm sure.

Cool! Glad you found the ole Crest! ...put that on the buffer and make it 'chiny. It will make a nice compliment/contrast to your red elements, which btw are keen by me.

Stupid note; I found an old Porsche crest under the front seat the other day. It was from a fob, and from the 80's too. Also, an undersized $20 bill... almost got me looking, I was tired. I'm thinking nickles, quarters, P-crests... 20's... Next thing I'd have dogs sniffing my car lookin' for T Montana. hehe

The way I testing it was using a continuity tester on both the idle switch and the WOT switch. If I wiggled the WOT switch I could get it to let a bit of current through, but nothing consistent. I'm assuming this is designed to simply close a circuit. If so, it's broken. Nice to find stuff like this on a cleanup job!

It's weird, at around 4k my car feels like it just runs out of breath and struggles all the way to 6k. From idle to 4k it goes like hell. Could be a CAT with 90k on it too, that's coming off next.
Cams? Uh............. Time to open my workshop manuals and see if I can figure out how to check that.

I already f*cked up one of the stops, so they are coming off.

Thanks for the head up Greg, I already have a baggie full of WURTH Band clamps. Every piece of rubber under the hood is being changed, so I stocked up on these.

What picture do you see this in? God, I hope not.

Actually, I have a 996 or whatever the newest hood crest is called for my intake.

Ok, so I'm standing back looking at my motor and a thought hits me...........head gasket. To bad these damn things are so hard to get off or I'd pull the heads.

Nice spider. I have a Dave Shaeffer polished spider I have yet to put on my car after two years. You are giving me ideas of trying when my To do list is mile long already.

Stupid me forgot a few pieces when I dropped off my parts at the powder coater:

1. Little clips that hold on the fuel injectors
2. The vacuum line that screws on the front of the intake (duh!!)
3. Fuel lines - I figure, why not, you can powder coat steel, can't you?

I'm going to do all of the above in black. I think it would be too much red otherwise.

I'll then just spray the top of any bolts black prior to install. I'm really going to take my time with the install, I want everything to be perfect. I plan to take a lot of time routing the vacuum lines so they don't look so cluttered.

The cold air injector thing, any way to test that? I'd like to make sure it works before I bolt it back UNDER the intake.

For a finishing touch, I hand-painted the Porsche crest and attached it to the plenum with JB Weld - would look good on yours as well:
