That's the car. These pictures were taken before I got there. I think you can see from them why I am hesitant to remove anything under the car... The stereo was gone, the fog light trim was gone and I'm sure other things were before I arrived. I got the foglights and taillights, mirror and other stuff.

I'll make a list of everything people here want and try to get over to the junkyard this weekend. Small pieces I will just grab, and the people that asked can pay me cost plus shipping if they still want them.Larger items (like door panels) I will take photos of before buying. No guarantee that I can get to the junkyard as it's on the far side of town from me, and--who knows--I may get a life between now and Sunday.

I grew up following my dad around junk yards picking parts for his many many projects. None of the yards we went to ever had anybody who could have or would have written a blog entry like that. Very impressive. And there seems to be a whole community to follow and comment. Amazing.

p.s I would totally take fenders, bumpers, clutch and trans. If they could be teleported to Honolulu.

Since this is a '78, the door panels and rear quarters (which don't appear too bad from the above pics) are plastic, and not the later pressboard material. They're less prone to warping and are kinda unobtanium-y. Might be worth pinching if anyone has the space to hoard them.

I've got space, and equally important, an understanding wife. In fact, I have parts all over the dining room table, and when my wife asked about it, I said, "You should see Rob Edwards' kitchen!"

I will grab what I can when I go back, let you all know what I have. Folks here have first dibs at cost. Anything not spoken for will go to eBay eventually. Of course, this all assumes the car hasn't been pillaged by the time I get back.

Is there any value in the plastic rear quarters?

Matt

When did the inside lock actuator change from the star to the round style (in the 78 model year)?

Somewhere between US car # 107 and #225. Haven't had the time to narrow it down further.

So, super early. This one is likely early to mid '78 build at #1103

#1103 would actually be late in the year, probably June or perhaps late May '78.

I would also be interested in the speakers from the rear quarters and doors, assuming A) they're the originals, and B) they're not rusty.

Hey, thanks, I wrote that piece. I don't work for the junkyard though, I just like finding interesting (to me) junkers and writing about them. There's another 928 from a couple years back in there too (I think I linked to it). Same junkyard in fact. We've written about the 928 (whole examples, not junkers) as well multiple times along with thousands of other cars...

P.S. The build date on this one was June 1978, one of the last of the US market '78s.

Added to the list. Last weekend the rear speakers were still there. I didn't pull the door panels, but will this time and look for speakers while at it. The car is remarkably rust free.

If the interior rear quarter panels are intact and not pretzels, I'd be interested.

My car has a set that may well not have been original, as they are press board and twisted all our of shape by the leather shrinking and moisture exposure over the years.

I know it is a bit of effort to get out but I's love to have the instrument panel and pod.

I will try to pull the rear quarters. They looked decent last weekend.

The pod and the switches in it are spoken for, but will get the instrument panel.

hey leperboy - sounds like you'll be living out at pull and pay with all these part requests - this is the third 928 i've seen appear out there over the years - i raided the first two - this one i'll leave to you (too old to be under a car in the mud in the cold) - if you are looking for ebay parts worth something..the CE panel and the HVAC head unit are - also the plastic intake tubes - the electronics are also something to think about - and of course switches and ***** - i pulled the trannies and clutches out of the 2 i "visited" - those cars are usually very stable on those welded rim "jack stands" - they won't let you bring in a jack and don't supply any so getting a trans out is sort of a loosen everything and let it fall to the groung thing - nice day here today so have at it - good hunting
