Yes it is, but probably morso for you than for me, since I already had pretty high expecttions for it.

I find that as I add more cross strips of leather I can each time go back and with my finger nails compress the cross ways strips a little more each time in order to keep the spacing close to the pattern design.

I also find that I can only do this weaving a little at a time, much like coloring in the blocks on one of my pattern designs.

Here is where I am now.

When I was in the USAF we defined progress as movement in any direction. Here I am making some progress, but only after I had to take out about 8 strips of leather and correct a mistake that I had made in the design. I think it is attributed to drinking and weaving. Nevertheless I am well on the way now and have over half of this double weave done.

[QUOTE=mkhargrove;18549169]It could be done....and really not that difficult. But, I'm afraid that the effort might be disappointing in the end. The woven leather won't have the crisp contrast between the colors that you see on the print. Where the weaves cross you'll have curves, and the illusion of movement or whatever someone might call it that is created by the Pasha pattern might be lost. I would suggest using a really thin top grain for the "base." Cut the slots in the base piece. Cut strips from a thin piece of the contrasting color. I've woven leather before, and using a base piece with slits cut nearly to the edge, and weaving in strips is much easier than cutting all strips and trying to weave them and sew all of the edges together. I'll try to find a pic to show what I'm talking about. With that said, I think that you could create a panel the sized of a seat bottom in less than an hour....and that would be . . .

Kevin, does this show you that there is more than one way to skin a cat? Does the contrast in what I have done here meet your needs?.

This pattern is working out very well and I am finding that I can compress each weave very well to give it the look it deserves. Leather is very forgiving is many respects and I find that it can be pretty much squeezed or compressed in the weaving process to achieve the desired end result.

The weaving of this pattern just keeps on keeping on. I have it about 3/5 of the way done for these two insert patterns.

One of the things that you might notice about this weave is that the outer verticle strips of leather, or even two or three of them on each side, are tending very much to drift outward in the pattern. What I have figured out to do about that is to obrtain a few strips of sheet aluminum to push up through the pattern when it is finaly weaved in order to hold these outer strips into the weave before I need to iron it all into place with each other. Otherwise it is going to be kind of a bitch to keep it all in proper alignment.

Now I have about 4/5 of the pattern woven. I have to stop here for bit so that I can cut two more 3/4 inch strips to finish it out. Then I'll be tightening the pattern up side to side before I iron it all together to activate the cement that will hold it all together, I hope.

So far just about everything I had anticipated about doing this project has worked out and in a couple of cases better than I had thought.

Edit: Oops! I see that I have dropped a stitch, so to say, since I have left out one of the three center 3/8 inch strips in the last cluster. That means taking out the last four strips woven in. That should not take too long.

Bravo! Looks great! Hopefully the contact cement will withstand the stretching of the leather from sitting and exiting and the hot/cold cycles our cars are subject to throughout the year. Can’t wait to see the seats!

Thanks Harry.

I have only 7 more strips to weave into this pattern and then I'll need to see that it is all adequately compacted both up and down and side to side. Then I'll iron it all together. I still have to build my ironing board and obtain the aluminum strips I'll need for the compacting sideways.

Here is a picture, but my camera battery went dead when I tried a picture of the pattern with the last few strips laying on it.

Sublime, Jerry!

Impressive approach and well done!

Wonderful selection of colors too.

Paul Champagne must surely be smiling!

Were you still thinking of tilting the pattern?

Again, well done! Now let's see if it holds up better than the Frank Lloyd Wright designed college near me!

Thanks guys for your comments and for staying tuned.

Here is the picture I wasn't able to take yesterday.

Yesterday i had a trial in Court that was scheduled for half the morning and most of the afternoon. However we finished it up in just the morning, so I had some time to gather up some loose ends on this project. I rummaged thru some material in my shop and found the correct pieces to make the ironing board out of. I als ordered and then later picked up the aluminum strips I need. I also bought some nice flannel to cover my ironing board with and then I also bought some slightly different backing material that is a bit lighter in weight and is also iron-on hoping the both its glue and what I have on the back of the leather will give it a stronger bond.

I continue to mentally give thanks to Paul C. for his suggestion about this weaving. I also have an occasional thought about tilting this pattern, or one similar, into the diamond shape as I drew up in the older thread. There is a lot to try to figure out about how to weave it that way in this loom or maybe make a different one. So far I have pretty much rejected the idea, but it is still there and maybe a little stronger now. It is quite a ways out in any case.

Right now my fingernail on my right index finger is pretty sore from pulling these strips down into a tighter position. I seem to find that each time I start at the bottom of the pattern with pulling the strips down a tiny bit I can get about a sixteenth of an inch of space pretty quickly and then have to work that all the way up through the pattern to the top. I think thru the middle of the pattern and closer to the top I must have been more aggressive in the compaction as I went. I do find that the compaction of the vertical strips has been pretty good without any extra effort on my part in the weaving. I still will have to compact the outer three or four strips when I finish weaving all the horizontal strips. So far the pattern has grown only about a half inch up and down and maybe when I compact the vertical strips I'll have that at only about an eighth of an inch in expansion, which will be just about exactly right in the end.
