Even if the engine is overfilled with oil, there's no "path" (like a vent of some sort), in the area which is oily.
Therefore, something is leaking, somewhere.
Start with the cork gasket that seals the oil fill cap. The cork gets crushed, over time, and can leak oil.
Like Speedtoys says, check all the hose clamps and be alert for cracked hoses, right at the base of the clamps.
So, I've sucked a bit of oil out of the engine (via the dipstick, so it was a bit greasy and difficult to measure afterwards). Fingers crossed, I'll check again tomorrow.
Also, I think I may have found the source of my greasy engine bay. The oil filler cap did not have a gasket installed.
Nr. 26 in the drawing below.

That's what I suspected, from the pictures of your oil path. (Gravity rarely "pulls" things with mass up.)
You need the gasket.

Look closely as I have seen the old gasket look so compressed I didn't think it was there
The new gasket arrived today, I'll install tomorrow, as it is pitch dark in my garage for the moment.
(I had to drain more than 1liter of oil to get the level to the maximum line.)

I had quite a scare today, as it gave me a really loud gunshot bang right under my *** while decelerating (put it in 4th to slow down after just cruising at 100kmh in 5th). It regularly gives some pops and bangs, but this one woke up the entire neighborhood. I had a loud one last week too, but this one was even louder.
It also consumed almost an entire tank of fuel in only 320km (200 miles). The low fuel light is about to come on in the next kilometers I think.
It did pass the CO test for the legal technical inspection 2 weeks ago.
Seems like there's something out of order. I'm afraid I'll have to get it to a specialist, as I don't own all the necessary tools you guys suggest.
I don't look forward to this, as I've owned it for only a few weeks and it has only been registered since last week. I don't want to part with it already.
Who overfill the engine? You should make an oiltest if you have 20 % gas in the oil.
Putting 7,5 l oil in the engine is easy. I would be sceptical if overfilling is the Answer to your problem.
Too much gas can wash the oilfilm from the walls of the cylinders = scored bores.
My 84 euro S can drive with one tank filling 500 - 550 km and I drive fast.
I f you loose the trottle Pedal my car pops too but not loud bangs.
Maybe you should test the injectors and the ignition. Are you sure she fires on all 8 cylinders?
