At the Laguna PCA/Road and Track Invitational, I dont think this group understands how awesome it was to see Mark Anderson's 928 in 3rd place overall. Remember he was 1st in GT2R. this is the highest normally aspirated group, and GT1R took 1st place with a 700hp turbo. Now, keep in mind, 2nd place was a Factory race car on steroids (winning 3RRAcing porsche from SpeedGT last season and is close to equivilant to a GT3RS Lemans winning car)
so, 1st place it GT2R for the 928. did anyone notice that he beat the remaining 40 other GT3R's and GT3's? as well as any of the turbos, as well as any of the other 10 GT2R cars that are not only newer, but much more expensive??
He won GT2R easily against anything, and did it in a car that is over 15 years old! Not bad in my book
So, when folks say you cant race a 928, you can ask them the last time an equally prepared 911 was at the track and had given it an even close fight!
That will shut them up.
Nice job. way to hold the 928 flag high!

It was very impressive to see that a 928 can leave behind so many 911 based racers that had so much more preparation and technical support.
For the casual viewer it was not very transparent as to which class each car belonged to, and how each did within its respective class.
One other thing that struck me was the incredible reliablility of Mark Anderson's stroker engine. He said he is in his third season without any rebuild or major problems. I wonder how long the 911 engines last...
Mark Kibort: DO keep up the energy, and keep us up to date on your race schedule!

I watched it all happen as well. I must say that the race seemed to be between Mark and the fourth place car which I think was driven by Hank Watts. Now I have ridden with him around Laguna Seca in that car, and he is a smooth and competent driver in a fast car. He wrote the book on solo driving. And he doesn't ***** foot around. It appeared that he might catch Mark toward the halfway point, but all of a sudden he seemed to drop farther and farther behind, or Mark seemed to move farther and farther ahead of him.

Mark, I was deeply impressed by this. I have a friend with a GT3 who simply cannot comprehend what I'm telling him. He's on this site by the way and I'm gonna drag him to Fontana.
I also loved how the 911/993/996 drivers would drive by your pit spaces and just stare. Every now and again someone would wag a finger in mock seriousness. Maybe it was just longing.
During the stock car race there was one old 1974 Torino stock car up against mostly late 80's through 1993 stock cars(with one 96 model thrown in, Dale Earnhardt's #3). This particular driver was able to outdrive about one third to half the newer stock cars and he was sideways exiting every turn on the track. Come to think of it he was always sideways going in as well. I mean you haven't seen sloppy until you've watched a 70's era stock car navigate its way around a track. A 60's era car would've probably caused actual carnage. We already know that a brand spanking new stock car is a bad race car on a road course so imagine that 74 Torino with bucket seats that stopped midway up your back and your standard 74 Ford taxi cab steering wheel to hold onto. That's about a 19 year difference between that one car and the rest of the field. Make the drivers all equal and there is no way that Torino would've beat anything newer.
Might there be at least one or two people at Porsche watching you 928 guys beat their newer cars wanting to slap some of the 911 enthusiasts that forced them to make that relic a decent race car?

"Hope Mark A. gets to read this post;
Congratulations Mark!!! Way to keep the Flag Flying!!!!"
Thanks again for all the support. Racing a 928 has been a bit of an uphill battle but very rewarding thanks to people like you. We are also very lucky to have Kibort as there is nobody more vocal and proud to be racing the 928. As a committed group we can succeed.

Fan - tastic to Mark A!! Also to Mark K and the select group of racers world wide who keep the 928 competitive with newer, techie, high $$ efforts.
Each and every time I fire up the car for a solo country road run, it's as good as the first time: not only is it a legend by design, engineering and execution - it's still today's winner as proved by these guys.
"928 - there is no substitute!"
It feels so good, I'm going for a run ..... in the 928 ....

Its still hard to believe, but these guys ROCK!!!! M&M In no less than a race prepped 928. What exactly do you guys compete against in terms of:
1) Horsepower
2) Weight
3) areodynamics
4)Tires and suspension ??
