Default The 928 racer goes out for a stroll SONOMA RACEWAY 2022 oct 9th NASA Supertouring

Had a chance to get my son out on the track in his VW turbo GTi and he had a blast, but couldnt let him have all the fun, so i took the ole 928 out for race too. perfect father son weekend. we both get to hang out and feel some speed, and i get to race with NASA after about 10 years of not racing with them. kind of a pain to get the car tech'ed as i needed a bunch of stuff that SCCA doesnt care about. Ran into Jeff too and hung out a bit when he wasnt working ! great to see him and catch up. here is the video. not too exciting from a race perspective, but it was good beating up on the old dog , as always. hitting the rev limiter, burining used tire rubber, and bringing it home in one piece. still cant believe how reliable this machine is. still have some extra Yokohama tires if anyone is interested in a set of 300x650x18s. they fit on 10s and 11" rimes and are about the size of the hoosier 315x35x18 A6. lots of grip after a couple of races , they degrade down to a real good set of used hoosiers.. the set i have has only 2 heat cycles and almost no wear. (came from a pro team locally that races the 992s)

Race went well. times ok, as all the action was by turn 3 and then it was kind of boring as far as a race... 20 BMW M3s set up for specE46 or ST4 which has less HP /weight than me, but handle REALLY well. so it was a fun 2-3 laps and then it was just go fast for a while! been a while, so it was a good time.. plus i never get sick of that engine at the higher RPM

Agree, that sound is awesome! Nice mixing it up those first few laps.

I guess NASA gigged you for running a non-stock radio
I'm surprised how many places you need to shift down into 2nd. Based only on watching NASCAR there, it seems like there is just the one 180 corner that would slow you down that much.
Great video!!!

i remember racing with TCRA. all you needed was a roll bar and some arm restraints! . they did require a center net, and didnt like an old side window net. still very safe, just judged to be safer by NASA , which is funny, because SCCA used to be the harder org to get "safe" with. Definitely fun...... might have to do another one soon at Thunderhill... after all my son needs to run the Big track at T-hill and of course, i need to go with the race car as a back uip.. and since it will just be sitting there, i might as well race it!

nascar doesnt use the same track we use the carocel. however, at turn 2, it is slow enough with our tall gears to run 2nd to get a punch out of it, in fact, 3rd would be bogging. also at turn 5 (the right down the hill) , and the end of the carocel and straight (turn 7) , which is a nice high rpm 2nd that gives a lot of control with the throttle and the LSD to get around the turn with greater forces acting on the rear tires for control....... and of course the final turn 11 hairpin.2nd.
