Front driver seat not going back far enough. Need help.
Hi my driver seat isent going back far enogh to give leg room for people over 180cm. But i feel that they go very far forward. The seat is electric in an -81 car. The seats have been out as the PO had new covers on them.
any ideas?
Is there different mounting holes and it could have been mounted to far forward? When it stops going backward it feels like a realy is kicking in and it lookes as they go al the way back in the ”runners”(dont know of its the correct word).
The referenced thread covers the basics. I doubt your seat travel mechanism will be any diffferent to the later models.
You state that the seats have been out recently so there may lay a clue. Have you compared the passenger seat to the driver's seat? They both travel the same so if one seat is different to the other it should be rather obvious if you are losing travel and that is easy to measure.
Pulling the seats out is easy but if there is limited travel you may have difficulty getting at some of the bolts as the seats have to be moved to both extremes to get the bolts out and if some clown has over tightened them the fun just gets better and better. I used a socket drive with a hex bit- I think they are 6mm hex.
A common problem with these seats is that they shed the plastic bushes some spacers are wrapped in- if the seat rocks back and forth on the rails that will be the cause. I found an easy workaround was to dismantle the worm drive system and rebuild it with copper washers as and where needed. I posted about this not too long ago- February time here: https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...and-forth.html
To get the main worm drive out you will need an impact wrench to get the screws that hold the main support bracket..
Being a tall handsome guy, I find that the seats go back far enough. However, another problem arises when the seat is pushed far back, namely that the steering wheel is too far forward. I have solved this on my cars by manufacturing and installing a 50mm (2 inch) long extension at the steering wheel hub.

Thanks everyone. Ive tinkered a bit more and think the problem is somehow realted to the automatics pushing the seat forward when you fold the seatback to get in to the back seat. I pusched the seat backwards using the manual lever to get to the front mounting bolts, and the seat went way more back, but directly it started going forward on its own.
Mr. Fred, we Vikings are big guys and the 928 is a small car. To cope with the ceiling, I have to tilt the backrest backwards, which means that my long arms are not long enough when the seat is in the rear position. However, the little neighbour lady does not have the same problem, she must have a pillow under her round nice bottom to be able to see out when driving

Hehe, im viking blood to(swedish) but im not overly tall. My car doesent have a sunroof so cealing clearense is no big issue.
Problem solved! It was switch that is supposed to activate the seat forward that was always on. A tab that was supposed to engage it when the back rest was upright was broken of. Temporary fix now… viking way with wood!😂
Another factor that you might consider is that there are two sets of mounting holes for the 928 seats. They are about an inch and a quarter or inch and a half apart. There are two holes in the front and three in the back. Maybe your seats are or were mounted in the forward positon rather than the rear.
I'm pretty sure that my ex-wife might be able to help on this one. She knows how to make the passenger seat lean back in pretty much every sports car ever made
